-edit-- before you ask, yes there are folders in Volume_2 ;) I can actually browse them from the OS file explorer

You mean you can browse the content from your mac when the usb disk is connected to the NAS, right ?

Now try this

ls  /share/1100/Volume_2


pretty sure it will list the files

the command Jock gave (/usr/bin/ls -l /direct-usb/Volume_2) is wrong as this volume is not mounted on that folder menain the sym link direct-usb is not pointing to /share/1100
You can check where "direct-usb" is pointing to by using this

this doesn't return anything as you can see below

there is another command you can use to list files

find
