here is the 2TB drive i had wanted to upgrade to. this is how it looked in windows compter management, after i completed the install.

this has the common colour codes windows uses & i highlighted the last bright green patrition to show what options were available to the green ones. all others have only delete partition present on them.

im curious to know if it created the correct size/number of partitions?

hmmm,

I have continued with trying to get the original disc to a good state and the latest is, having taken the snapshots above, i setup the stock disc again. this time however there is no flashing led well no red/blue at least.... just a steady flashing blue led.

i wait a while... and after a good couple of minutes, i hear the drive almost kick into second gear and with that and a few flickers of the blue led goes off! no more led at all - just a drive still purring away...

So next i try to power down the drive via the rear button, and that worked too!

one obsrevation here is it remembers the last state it was in when power was removed clearly, when you resort to using the power lead to switch on it continues in the on state... when as now, you can power it down correctly via the button, starting it again it goes into standby mode.... perfect!

now i can try u-boot again and maybe test those commands from earlier... err.. ide reset & ide part?

how cool is that? i hope its what should be there...
now should i push it & try the same on the 2TB drive after all this is the one i'd like to end up with if possible?

B.T.W. has anyone managed to install plex with the new version? that's my media player of choice, but i see no mention of it so far??

and finally for the night.....

this is the 2TB drive retested. note for fvdw, no partitions is done via windows computer management, is this what you would expect? i'll stick with your request from now on though for continuity.

so im back where i started :bananadance

err not quite, i can no longer see the nas on my network as yet, but im not too worried as id like to continue with this alternative method anyways.. especially if i could get Plex working on it too...

night..

ok i`m figure this out
I must first select directory where tftp got files, without selecting again directory i got this error.
Now i must put bigger hard disk (i got 3 units without any hdd) and spare 160gb got problem to use , i will try 1tb drives

Firmware install fine right now with no problems on 1TB Samsung drive:)
Quick question what minimum size i can install on Network Space 2 , 500gb ?

And why write i got 19-20mb but read only 15-17mb.

If you have installed the fvdw-sl console as it comes, and using the default directories, you shouldn't have to set tftp directory

Minimum size hdd
There is no minmum size.
Why you have for read only 15-17 is probably because of the writing speed performance of your own PC
I get 30 MB/s
