What you could do in the meantime is check what is present on the 3 disk with data
What I propose is to copy it to disk 1 or disk 2 (temporarily) present in the nas using usb->sata connector.
Then checking if the data is ok.
Then erase and format the disk for installtion in the 5big2. Then copy the backup data on disk 1 or 2 to this disk
However you mentioned you want to take out the disk and take it with you when traveling and use it in usb-sata interface to connect to your pc.
That will not be possible if we use ext3 format. A solution could be using fat32, but that will limit file size to max 4 GB
So please let us know your plans and desires for this to see what the best way is to proceed
