blocked external ips

Postby matigev » Mon Apr 29, 2013 2:00 am

Since I have been playing a bit with pptpd and openvpn, my nas is blocking my external connections. I used transmission remote on my work or phone but it suddenly stopped working. The port forwards from my modem work fine (for my other server), but the nas is refusing all external connections. Hosts.allow and deny are empty? and the settings.json from transmission daemon are set up correctly. Any idea how to fix this? Or a way to go back to all default settings without data loss?

did you also play with iptables ?

simple way to restore default settings is re-install the firmware again

How did you re-install the firmware, did you use the firmware upgrade menu ?
It puts a fresh copy on a new partition and uses that for booting, can not be that it does not solve this issue :dry

Yes I did use the firmware menu, but most settings (f.e. what to start on boot/transmission settings etc.) remain the same as before, so I guess not everything is reset. I will be switching to a new harddisk soon (the old one is approx. 3 years old now), so maybe a fresh install will be the solution. Still, it remains pretty strange that suddenly it stopped working since I did not change anything in my network. I searched the net if I could get an accesslog from the Transmission web gui, but that's not implemented yet afaik. The "refusal" is so quick that it must be a misconfiguration somewhere. Next time I will ask for your advice before I will be playing. Me and my unix n00b skills :hammerhead
For now I thank you for your thoughts and keep up the good work!

form several severs the settings are indeed kept, like transmission, torrentflux, logitech mediaserver twonky firefly. This is done to prevent the user made settings are lost when upgrading. These settings should not have an impact unless you modified there something that is not standard set. You could just re-install the server to get default settings back. (maybe delete the folder first, I would start with transmission as that is the one you report problems with)
Of course a new hard disk will be a real fresh install if you don't copy anything form the shares of the several servers.

Can you post the output of the command
Code: Select all
ps -ef

this to see what you have running
