move sftp and https ports

move sftp and https ports

Postby stereomic » Mon Dec 03, 2012 5:32 pm

Hi there!

My ISP is blocking all external TCP ports below 1024. On top of that, the (rubbish) modem/router they provide can't forward any external ports to a DIFFERENT internal port number. No fun if you want to remotely access your ns2, using an android device or whatever machine outside the network.

One option I tried, was to add a Belkin router in double NAT to change the ports, but without succes. After going through the details with the Belkin helpdesk they claimed it was a 'known bug'. Since my Belkin was out of warranty, I should buy a new one... Ain't gonna happen for a device that's actually redundant... :dry

So I was charmed by the firmware you guys are using :applause but with some concerns:
1) I saw on your screenshots that the sftp port can be changed, but how about the https?
2) Does the web explorer run over this https port or a seperate (configurable?) one?
3) Will the web explorer work (and have a practical layout) on a smaller android browser?
4) Is there another way to move the ports around? I had a look at your firmware's first time installation guide, and it scares me a bit. I have no sata to usb converter, no Linux (and my skills stop after the 'ls' command) and worried about voiding the ns2 warranty by opening it...

Would you recommend a noob like me to take the leap? I do like the improved useraccount/share management you provide...

Thanks a million for your advise and answers to the questions above...

Hi stereomic

Here some answers...
1) I saw on your screenshots that the sftp port can be changed, but how about the https?
Sorry, but currently this is not possible to change the https port, but we can easily add this option with version 14.0 (Temporarily we can send you a patch for version 13.0)
2) Does the web explorer run over this https port or a seperate (configurable?) one?
Web-explorer, like webdav, uses the http or https port
3) Will the web explorer work (and have a practical layout) on a smaller android browser?
web-explorer uses only php code or some usual js instructions. So I think there will be no issue with your smaller android browser. Note : Webdav is easier to use
4) Is there another way to move the ports around? I had a look at your firmware's first time installation guide, and it scares me a bit. I have no sata to usb converter, no Linux (and my skills stop after the 'ls' command) and worried about voiding the ns2 warranty by opening it...

Sorry, but I don't know other way. It's a bad thing this : "On top of that, the (rubbish) modem/router they provide can't forward any external ports to a DIFFERENT internal port number." :fuming

If we can get iptables installed on the firmware it should be possible to to listen on alternative ports.

@fvdw
Thanks for your reply!
My brother is trying to install v11 on my 2TB lite version right now...
Patch for moving the https port would be fantastic! Can you post it in the download topic?
When do you expect to release v14?
I assume we first uprgade to v13 before installing the patch?

@firmwareslut, maf112
Not sure what you guys are talking about, do I need these iptables too?

Thanks again!
