Camera and video surveillance

Re: Camera and video surveillance

Hi, this time I could load both modules without errors, but when I attach the Camera to the front USB port of the NAS, nothing happens.

I've seen the blu led blinking for a while, so I expect the system attempted to access the camera, but I still have no /dev/video0 device, nor I can run lsusb:
Code: Select all
root@nas:/dev # lsusb
unable to initialize libusb: -99

I remind that I had the problem related to the firmware update BUG, so that my kernel was not updated in an intermediate update step with version 10.1, if I'm not wrong.

Could it be that I miss some other modules or feature which should be available instead?

Thanks,
MDI

UUPS, despite the lsusb command, disconnecting and reconnecting the camera again, it seems to work.
I will make a test and confirm...

If the modules load then you kernel is the right one
And no you do not miss any modules

ps you need to use
Code: Select all
lsusb -t

(and not only lsusb, this a non compatibility of lsusb with newer kernels those do no longer support the depreciated older sys usb file system)

Ok, so, it seems to work:
Code: Select all
root@nas:/ # lsusb -t
/:  Bus 01.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=orion-ehci/1p, 480M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 10, If 0, Class=vend., Driver=sn9c20x, 480M

BUT: seems also that the camera doesn't turn ON. I was able to have it working for a while, then it switched off on its own.
I tried to disconnect and reconnect, but I was able only once to have it working again, then it stays turned off...

Motion works, but shows the grey screen when the camera is off, of course.

Is there anything to signat the camera to stay on?

sorry but I don't know :dontknow
if the driver is loaded it must be something with motion
My camera stays on as long as it is connected. Maybe the motion man pages gives a solution how to turn on the camera.
Or try another camera
Maybe a bad connection, is the connector clean ?

ps i fired up my webcam and after more then an hour it is still up and running in motion

Hi, now it seems to work, I've been waiting for 1 day, then I reconnected it, started motion and it seems to stay up now. :)

Anyway, the issue with the camera recognition by the Kernel is solved, so many thanks again! :) :hail
