How to install Transmission on Network Space 2

I am new here and just bought the LaCie Network Space vs2. I have two questions:

How do I figure out which version I bought (classic or lite)?

How do I install Transmission on my Network Space 2? I am a Mac user and haven't touched Linux for a few years. So I would be very thankful for a step by step instruction.

If you want to install transmission in combination with the lacie firmware, then I can not help you. In the fvdw-sl firmware it is integrated.

Mine is a lite one. Obviously LaCie is trying to save production cost but it is stupid that is take the RAM away. :disapprove

I don't care about Lacie firmware. Please tell me how do I get Transmission on my NS2? I would take your fvdw-sl.

I have installed Fedora on my Mac as dual boot, so I get the terminal on any of Linux and Mac.

Where do I get your firmware with a step by step install instruction?

In the fvdw-sl firmware Transmission is included.

You need to use the first time install package and then upgrade to latest version (all is there in the topic including a guide how to do it)

I found the link and the guide. However, you are talking about 3 files needed for install:

UIMAGE-26xyz-NWSP2CL-n
sda5-lacie-nwsp.tar.gz
fvdw-sl-x-y -nwsp2-date.img

But I see only fvdw-sl file to download. Where do I get the first 2? :scratch

You must install before the version 11.0 and make an upgrapde :

for first time install use fvdw-sl-11-0 package for the moment and then upgrade to fvdw-sl-12-1

First time install package for fvdw-sl-11-0 can be found here

You'll find the three files in the zip archive : fvdw-sl-11-0-nwsp2-HDD-install-package.zip

Thanks! I thought it is a package but if I try tar -xvf I go in loop to cpgz and back to zip. Maybe it is a problem with Mac. I will try with Fedora now.

The downloaded file was corrupted. I downloaded it again.

I followed your instruction but there was a few different things. First the sector size is 4096 bytes in my case not 512 bytes. Is it ok to take the same numbers for cylinders you suggest? Here is the fdisk result:

After finishing your instruction I pulgged the HDD in to the LaCie case and connected. After a few seconds of blue blinking it switches to blinking RED with steady Blue LED together. I am guessing it doesn't boot.

and here is the permission check on the nas_conf_db.xml:

Edit: I delete everything and started from scratch again. It is still blinking RED with a steady blue LED. :pissed

I didn't do any backup of LaCie firmware and trusted your work. :crazy
