The NAS Thecus N2520 does it have a chance with fvdw-sl ?

Postby macintosh » Sat Nov 29, 2025 10:56 am

Hello everyone.

I'm the proud owner of two LaCie hard drives that work perfectly with fvdw-sl v18.3 (many thank to Jocko and fvdw :hail ).

I just acquired an old Thecus N2520 NAS functional, but with terrible firmware :lmao and a specific setup program that uses the outdated :dontknow Adobe Air (under Windows 8 or macOS Sierra) and is awful :sob ...

Is there any chance :please the N2520 NAS will work with fvdw-sl firmware, given that the components are different ??
Full specifications are available on the official website "https://www.thecus.com/index-product?language_num=1&PROD_ID=87"

Fvdw-sl firmware it would be a huge improvement for this otherwise fully functional NAS, which dates back to 2016...

Thank you

Thank you for your reply Jocko.
It's not urgent because my Thecus N2520 is working.
But an fvdw-sl firmware update would do it a world of good :-D
Wishing you a very happy end to 2025...

It seems to be a x86 compatible pc so our x86 package could possibly run although in that package a limited amount of drivers is present, the mos commonly used. But this device may need a specific driver for instance for the network card.
Furthermore more info must be available on the boot process as that determines if our x86 setup is compatible.
What you could do is follow the test described here https://plugout.net/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=3444&start=20#p37786
To see if the fvdw-sl image can run on this device. Note in that instruction it is assumed that the nas can boot from usb. If that is not the case then you could use a harddisk instead and put that inside.

Hi Fvwd
Thank you very much for this response.

Yes, this Thecus NAS can boot from USB (this is provided for reinstallation of the original firmware).
I will therefore try what you suggest, knowing that I will (maybe) be able to reinstall the original firmware in case of problems.

But I can't find the file "fvdw-sl-i686-check-16apr20.iso" that you are talking about in the post.
I searched through almost all sections, and particularly "Firmware and How To guides downloads" without success and the search tool came up with nothing.
No fvdw-sl specific for x86.
Where can I find it ?

Thank you, happy hollidays and very happy end to 2025.
