maybe the kernel on sda6 is corrupted or the bootloader fails to detect it.

So stop the nas and use the console to load an external kernel image : action "External kernel, load and start" and select the kernel image "UIMAGE-414133-KIRKWOOD-1"

In addition to Jocko post, did you do something with the boot loader (Uboot) ?

Further the kernel Jocko is referring to is in sub folder firmware/kirkwood of the tftp folder of the fvdw-sl console

You mean power off and then on ??
After reboot there the same issue. Led is steady red and to network access

no you should not reboot when loading and starting the external kernel.

So what you do is select option load and start external kernel (your nas is switched off)
When you have selected the kernel, wait until the cmd window that pops up that mentions it waits for uboot
Then power on your nas and wait until kernel is loaded and started

loaded and started external kernel but still no network access
Front led is blinking blue
