I did another trial and mofied the pptpd.conf file to get another ip range for the vpn network

I used this setting in the conf file
Code: Select all
localip 10.5.1.2
remoteip 10.5.1.241-250

This means the pppd server has ip 10.5.1.2 in the VPN network and clients get 10.5.1.x as IP with x a number in the range of 241 to 250

It works
This is output of ifconfig on the nwsp2
Code: Select all
ppp0      Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
          inet addr:10.5.1.2  P-t-P:10.5.1.241  Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST  MTU:1396  Metric:1
          RX packets:2181 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:1901 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:3
          RX bytes:343056 (335.0 KiB)  TX bytes:576253 (562.7 KiB)

root@fvdwsl-nwsp2:/ #

When I now type \\10.5.1.2 in windows explorer I get the samba folders from the nwsp2.
when I type \\10.5.1.241 I get the shared folders of my windows PC

In the properties of the VPN connection in windows 7 the VPN IP assigned is also shown

I can connect to the VPN from my 3G on the phone now. I am not able to connect to any services to the NAS yet that I had working through the wifi.

But this is a good start!

Oh I had the wrong ip in local_ip. Now I can connect to the VPN through 3G and it finds the minidlna server using bsplayerlite :D :D:D

It seems DLNA is not going to work easily with VPN as the broadcast doesn't work properly. Apparently, it might be fixable with Iptables but I am not sure about this.

It feels like one step forward and two steps back with my dream of reaching my music collection on the phone with only the NAS.

I can't find a working CIFS module for my Samsung galaxy so I cannot even mount an smb folder and access music that way. BSPlayerLite can find an SMB share but the player is not that good and obviously not designed for music. You cannot play audio without the screen being active , for instance, and the audio stops if the application is not in focus.

Still trying to tweak my way towards a perfect solution :D

No problems here with minidlan via vpn plays without issues.
twonky has a webinterface from which you can also stream video audio pictures
I tried it using vpn connection from windows 7 (http://vpn-ip-nwsp2:9000)
You get a web page and you can browse the pictures, video, music folders, when opening one of the files it plays in windows mediaplayer. Works also in firefox but then it plays directly in the browser

maybe the android OS is not so compatible with Linux...
Does that phone support iTunes (does it has an iTunes client ?( then you could also try firefly)

I think it works if you already have the device discovered but it cannot rediscover it by itself unless bcrelay is installed and enabled in the pptpd.conf file.

Do you think you can compile bcrelay for me and I can test it.

There are no options in my android programs to specify a dlna server so they need to be discovered on the fly.

If i preconfigure XBMC it can browse the device but if I try to add a new upnp device it cannot find anything.

===

You might need to recompile pptpd with support for bcrelay.
