Hi Fuddyduddy,

I am sorry but I do not follow you... why do you use fvdw-sl console ?
you just need to use the shh access to get a shell session

Hi

I have now:-
    downloaded the latest firmware package
in web interface - <Firmware Update> Firmware tab, I have begun the Manual update prodedure and have reached Step2

Current System Status now shows this message:
Code: Select all
Fail: can not upgrade the firmware(502)
Readout of process shows:-
Code: Select all
=> Firmware upgrade step 2 started:
Firmware package manually uploaded
Unpack firmware package...(please wait)
Fail: uploaded file does not have a valid format

So, it seems I'm stuck again :sob

All I did was try follow the instructions faithfully. However, I didn't understand this
you just need to use the shh access to get a shell session
because no requirement to open an SSH session arose. Does that mean I unknowingly missed-out a step?

Fuddyduddy if you don't answer questions and do different things then instructed it becomes confusing and difficult to help you.

To minimize the confusion and create a new starting point.
Please answer these three questions:

1. Which version of the firmware are you currently using
2. Did you install a roll up patch , and if so which one?
3. Which file did you use in the manually upload in your last attempt to upgrade the firmware?

Hi

What questions have I not answered?

The answers to the questions you're now asking were (except the last, which wasn't asked) already provided once.

However, I'll happily provide them again, together with the answer to the new, third, question. Please see below.

You seem to be attributing my difficulties to some uncooperative behaviour on my part. Nothing could be further from the truth - I'm anxious to cooperate to the fullest - why would I not be when I'm in need of help?

Whatever the explanation is it isn't that. My theory (which may be wrong) is that it's due to my lack of familiarity with and fluency in the use of Linux, combined with your own apparent disbelief - born of your living and breathing Linux - that anyone else might actually have to struggle with it. And I do struggle, believe me!

1. Which version of the firmware are you currently using
Version 16.1
2. Did you install a roll up patch , and if so which one?
Yes; fvdw-sl-16.1-upgrade-patch-21dec2018.zip(fvdw-sl-16.1-upgrade-patch-21dec2018.tar)
3. Which file did you use in the manually upload in your last attempt to upgrade the firmware?
fvdw-sl-18-1-console-firmware-upgrade-v2-29jul19_zip-part1.rar

Jocko

I see (having posted it) that the explanation for my difficulties must be that only part1 of the .tar files got uploaded.

But I thought it was the case with all these .tar packages that one need only point to the part1.tar and the other parts are automatically uploaded too.

Have I got that wrong?

So you do not follow the steps of https://plugout.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3059 :dry :whistle

So at the step5 you have to download the package for version 17.0 (use the related link)
You also have to download all rar files present in this topic and then extract the zip file. It is this last file you have to upload for running a manual upgrading.

Of course after this step, you have to do the steps 6 and 7

Oh that one. I should have thought it was obvious that I must have misunderstood the "Firmware upgrade menu" page - which believe it or not is what happened. Completely stupid I know...

You for your own part haven't yet answered this question of mine
However, I didn't understand this
you just need to use the shh access to get a shell session

because no requirement to open an SSH session arose.
Does that make us quits? ;)

Seriously, can we please stop trading points off against each other? Please...? I am trying my best, inadequate though that may be by your standards.
So you do not follow the steps of viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3059
You are absolutely right. I see clearly now that it was missing that step which must have caused the rest of the problems, and it was a stupid omission on my part. I wrongly assumed that Step5 had been superseded by ver. 18.x having subsequently come out, and that the logical next step had (because of that) become to go straight to installing that latest version. I was wrong, and ought to have known better than to assume anything.
You also have to download all rar files present in this topic and then extract the zip file. It is this last file you have to upload for running a manual upgrading.
Thanks. I remembered wrong and mixed-up uploading the .rar files with how to do the extraction from them: it's the extraction where only the first .rar file has to be pointed-to and the others get extracted as well automatically - right?. Careless of me. :hammerhead

I will try again, and this time hope to get it right.
