Transmission - setting resets

Postby paros » Sun Mar 18, 2012 7:49 am

Every time I shutdown the NSP2, the settings for password and download folder resets to default. Other settings like peers remains as I have manually changed.

That happens if you use the init script for the daemon, that sets password and download folder to the default values
However this init script is only used when installing the client and reseting the config file using the button in the web interface.

Where did you made the manual settings change ?

I made te change under settings in Transmission.
I get a warning message that tells me that the download folder is wrong and I need to reset.

what name do you use as download folder ?
It must be something like /share/1000/name-of-your choice. The prefix /share/1000 is required otherwise you will download to the small system partition and ythat will be filled up quite quick if you download files to that.
Also it could be that transmission wants to have an existing folder. In that case first create a a new share with name "name-of-your-choice" (of course without the quotes.
I will try it myself to see if it works

First time. I removed the name and started download. How can I rwmove the files that landed on the small partition?
Next time, I created a folder that I called download, after that I just replaced the last part of the name "tr-downloads".

Its not a big issue, I can now use tr-downloads and the default password.

to remove the files from the system partition you need to access the NWSP2 via SSH, for instance using WinSCP. But also Putty is possible and use command line command to remove them if you did not fill in a name probably they are in the root of the system partition (top directory "/")
You r second attempt is exactly what i did and that setting should be maintained, it does on my system

sorry but no there is no guide for this, but WinSCP is pretty straight forward to use and easier then Putty and command line if you are not experienced with Linux

When you start WinSCP in windows you get a log in window, choose new, type in the IP address of the NAS, leave port number on 22 and fill in in the user name "root" (without the quotes), choose file protocol scp. Click save to store these settings, accept the name it proposes or modify it as you like. Now the log in window comes back, select the saved setting and click login, now a new window will pop up asking you the supply the password for user root, enter "giveit2me" (without the quotes) and click ok. Now it will open the main window with showing in left window your windows PC and in right window the NAS root file system
