I hope your 5big2 has no hardware problem.
Load the standalone kernel and log in with telnet and give command
Code: Select all
dmesg

Let see if it detects the disk without reporting errors

Fail to get an IP from DHCP server after installing fvdw-sl

Postby fvdw » Fri Apr 19, 2019 9:56 pm

I see no errors :thumbup

Well lets see if it wants to boot from sda1 to elimate a bad sector issue on sda7
Load standalone kernel and connect with telnet and give these commands
Code: Select all
mkdir /sda7
mount /dev/sda7 /sda7
cd /sda7/lacie-boot
touch sda1boot
cd /
umount sda7
reboot -f

If it still doesn't complete boot, you can have a look at boot.log on sda1 using standalone kernel (same procedure as you did for sda7 only now use sda1 instead of sda7

There are problems with the file system, (just do a google search with: Structure needs cleaning in)
Therfore the kernel cannot access files it needs to setup ethernet interface and other things, thats why you get this deviating ip address
My guess either this is a bad disk as also sda7 failed to load, or the firmware image you use is corrupt. (first option bad disk is more likely)

I arrived home, the md5 checksum of the firmware file include in the fvdw-sl console is
efe66638fc9f551274496643d60ef6f9

The file name is: fvdw-sl-17-0-base-30may2017.img.tar.gz (it is located in the subfolder tftp\firmare of the folder where you installed fvdw-sl-console

You could check by copying the file to you other nas and using command
Code: Select all
md5sum fvdw-sl-17-0-base-30may2017.img.tar.gz

If checksum of the file is oke then try another disk
(seems repairing file systems with this kind of error is not straight forward, and in first place you should not get this kind of errors)

md5 is exactly the same.
Believe me, I buy 4 new HDD seagate barracuda ST2000DM008 for install them in this nas. (the 5th I had it already at home, same model)
For now, i tried 3 hdds, beginning with the old that i had at home and then 2 new unboxed hdds… and all the same endig.
:thinking man, can't be 5 hdd with same problem… maybe the old one, but the other new, none.

Is there no a way to tell by telnet: take this ip ad boot on stupid box?

Tell me the truth, nobody but me makes you thinking so hard like that :hammerhead
