Plex 1.14.1.5488

I have downloaded PMS package
PlexMediaServer-1.14.1.5488-cc260c476-arm7.spk

would it be compatible with fvdw Lacie Cloudbox

would it be easy to install ?
just to be extracted in /share/1000/fvdw/addons/plexmediaserver folder ?

Thanks for any hint

Hi Uby, why you want to install that version. We have a plexmediaserver in the firmware? you need to wait for Jocko for comment on installation. He is more knowledgable with respect to plexmediaserver

Hello Frank,
Thank you for your reply.
Actually the current PlexMediaServer seems to run ok (even if a bit slow) for organizing libraries.
but when it comes to play an actual file, I always end up with an error message and no video is played at all, even from the web base interface directly
"Une erreur s'est produite pendant la lecture de cet élément."
"An error occurs during the reading of this element"

Is it due to lack of CPU power of the Lacie NAS ?
Is it some video codec library missing somewhere ?

Also I don't know why I don't see the DLNA server in VLC, I see it somehow on my TV set but even from here is doesn't work

I checked briefly the some log files but was not expert enough (or did not give yet enough time) to really understand the issue.

So I was wondering if one good way would be to update first with the latest version available ?

Thanks,

Uby

Hi ivy,
I don't think upgrading may fix your issue.

Currently our version is the latest version where Plex claims to support the arm version of your nas.and the newest versions are not built against this arm version.

With our version and also with newest ones, as soon as Plex needs to transcode your videos its Dlna stops to broadcast this media ( CPU limit). I think you have this issue.

Dlna server supports few video formats and then many videos must be transcoded.... You can find on Internet the short list of supported formats.

I am not at home for the next week, so you need to wait so that I can examine how to overwrite our version with your package

Hi Jocko,
Thanks for checking but no hurry.
I think you are right it will not fix the issue.
I made a small test this morning, from my vlc iPhone app, it is working like a charm, I can access to all video media and it plays correctly.
But from desktop computer either from VLC (actually I don't see the server) or directly from the browser (I tried Safari and Chrome) I see the media but they can't be played.
[EDIT] now it works also on VLC from the computer
Looks like more some config or parameters to tweak somewhere.
Kr,
Uby

Hi

I checked your package, it seems to contain similar plex files. So you can try to update plex with version 1.14 armv7

I assume you have installed our latest plex version (0.98) and it is not running
So extract the archive package.tgz and store it in fvdw share and run this command
Code: Select all
tar -xf /direct-usb/fvdw/package.tgz - C /direct-usb/fvdw/addons/plexmediaserver

Then try to start plex and see what happens...

Hello Jocko,
I have tried but it didn't work.
Code: Select all
root@fvdwsl-base:/direct-usb/public/Software # plexmediaserver start
Starting Plex Media Server...done

Please note that after installing you need to leave your box (and Plex) running for at least 30 minutes !

seems to start and the disk is scratching few minutes reading the database I guess but after a while I end up with
Code: Select all
root@fvdwsl-base:/direct-usb/public/Software # plexmediaserver status
Plex Media Server is not running

But I found out an older package but bit more recent PlexMediaServer-0.9.16.6.1993-5089475-arm.spk
for which I did the same and this time it worked.
I have now PM Server Version 0.9.16.6 running on my fvdw nas and it solve some issue, like now DLNA is working also from my TV set.
strangely I'm still not able to play the media directly in the web browser.

So I will continue to play, digging the web archive to find out the older most recent arm version available...
or analyzing the log to find out what is the crashing error.
Kind Regards,
Uby
