Ext USB disk plugged out/in repeadtely

HI Jocko,
here is a file where I attached the output of the commands you suggested (disk are i and j right now).

If needed I can reformat the disks. Maybe it is advisable to scan for bad sectors?

The usb spin down guard is disabled.
I initially formatted the disks time ago, with a linux distribution, but I don't remember right now. I don't think I formatted them from the NAS, no.

Thanks.

Thank

It seems you still use an old kernel version 4.6.6 (#7) instead of the last version (#26). Then that would mean you do not have install the last roll-up patch (08) which installs this version.

Note: this version contains a fix for the usb driver.
So you should install the patch

Your ext4 file system uses features not set with the firmware on ext4 fs: flex_bg, huge_file,dir_nlink and extra_isize
Need to deepen what means these features.

I assume you have data on these disks ?

I'll try to install the roll-up patch later.

Ok, now uname -a gives the following:

Code: Select all
Linux nas.local 4.6.6 #45 PREEMPT Mon Sep 17 23:1
7:28 CEST 2018 armv5tel unknown unknown GNU/Linux

Then I unmounted both disks and formatted disk2 only:
Code: Select all
ls -L data2 /dev/sdh1

Then I remounted both disks.

Let's see how it goes.

I think a better test would be keep only one disk (1st disk) as according to your dmesg output it is only sdc1 which returns a fatal error and occurs an re-mounting on both disks.

So maybe to do a test with a single disk (re-formatted)

Hi Jocko, i have only 11 (first) disk now. It still gives the problem.

Should i only reformat it with mkfs.ext4 or should i repartition?

Thanks.

Hi mdi,

Yes I'd rather, you use the reset feature from the disks setup menu instead of using directly some manual command.

I already detected the partition tool on some distros sets badly ms-dos table (eg. partition end) by using the reset feature I am sure all will be ok on this side.

Sadly I do not expect this fix your issue by this way but at least we uncheck an hypothesis.

I only see the internal disk (ext3) in the disk setup menu, initialize hard disk and volumes.

The usb disk is ext4 and is not listed. I only see 1 disk in the setup menu.

Indeed if you does not use this usb disk as an internal disk, it is not listed in the disk/volume table (or you may done an hot-plug)

But if you click on the button "Initialize disk and Volume", you should see it at least on the 2d table of this menu
