Also problems installing firmware 17

Hi

Indeed you need to create a share 'fvdw' (File share menus). At this step, you can set fvdw as a public share. Later you should set it as a private share (it is an admin share) and so create an user account to get an access on it.

To see the share from your windows laptop (eg. from file explorer) nas and laptop must have the same workgroup. So change it on your nas (LAN setup menu) according to this one set on your NAS.

I see you have a win10. Maybe the topic http://plugout.net/viewtopic.php?f=27&p=27624#p27624will be useful

So you should be able now to copy the archive to fvdw share.

Need your help again :( I can't acces the NAS for file transferring.. tried adding it in windows 10 as a network location (using the fixed IP adres I gave the NAS) but it's not working.. I changed the workgroup of the NAS to the same one as my pc as you said. I also enabled "FTP Server" in the NAS settings...

What do I do? I'm quite a noob in any NAS software/settings

Hi

I do not use win10 (I hate this OS version) but I think this should work: in the address link field of file explorer, enter the link
Code: Select all
\\your-nas-ip\fvdw
Then file file explorer should list the content of fvdw share.

You can also try
Code: Select all
net use \\your-nas-ip
in a command window on your laptop
Then you should see the nas in network map scetion

That you can't access the nas under windows 10 may be caused by the fact that windows 10 doesn't support smb1 protocol anymore by default. But you can solve it by installing smb1 protocol using install windows components feauture of windows 10. See here

Alright, got the NAS running smooth on V17-0 AND I see the shares in my windows explorer :)
In the shared "fvdw" folder there are now the "addons", "cron-boot", "mydictionary" and the patch-zip file. Can I delete these, or should I let them be? Can I delete the share?

This firmware is so well written, you guys did a really nice job. Thanks for all the help!
There are so many options that I don't know nothing about :p If you maybe have some extra spare time, I'd like to explain what I want to do and you can give me some tips on how to do it?

So I'd like this NAS to constantly sync (backup) my "movies" directory on my pc, so that every device in my house (tv, other pc, laptop etc) has acces to my movies and stream them. I guess for that to work I need a media server running on the NAS + some backup software on my pc? Any recommendations?

Also, would it be possible to hook an extra HDD to this nwsp2? maybe using the USB port?

You should not delete any folders or files in the fvdw folder. Only patch files that you have installed you may delete.

To sync your data on the pc with a folder on the nas you could use the rsync feature of the firmware.(shared folders, backup menu)

To stream media you could use one of the media servers in the firmware like twonky or minidlna. (Media servers menu)

Yes you can connect an usb disk it will appear as a shared folder on your nas if it is formatted with a file system supported by the firmware. (ext2, ext3, ext4, fat32 and ntfs). ntfs is a windows format but be aware if you use that that writing performance will be low (only 5 MB/s) this is because of speed limitation in the open source ntfs driver. When using fat32 which is also supported by windows the max file size is limited to 4 GB.
This info might be usefull if you want to usecthat usb disk also on a pc running windows. If thats not the case we advice to use ext4 format.

All webpages of the webinterface gave help pages how to use the feature please read them, it will save you and us time ;)

Ok, I'm here to annoy you again;)

I made a user with full acces to a certain share, and adding files is working perfectly. But I have trouble deleting them again. I can delete small files (like images or subtitles), but bigger files (like movies, +- 1,5 GB) give me the "you are not authorized to edit this file" error...

Same problem in sub-folders and in the Public share.
Is this a bug, or am I just messing something up?

So far the biggest file I was able to delete was 398MB.
When I try to delete the bigger files, it says that "Unix User\1001" should grant me the authority to edit this file.
When I look at the file properties it does say "read only" but when I uncheck that box, I get an error saying I need administrator-authorization to edit the file properties :/

Edit: I am the administrator of the computer I use to access the NAS

Hmm, I looked in my movie folder on this computer, and saw that all movies were read-only (no idea why? I didn't set it that way..) . Unchecked on all the movies, copied one (2GB) to the NAS and tried to delete it: worked! So I just have to make sure that the files I copy to the NAS aren't read-only, that's fine :) But now I still have some "read-only" files on the NAS that I can't alter... Any Ideas?
