A suggestion on new firmware version

Postby dustmud » Fri Feb 24, 2012 7:31 am

I have been using this fvdw firmware for a couple of months on my Lacie NWSP2. Just upgraded to v11. It saved my investment and work perfectly stable. I have to say, I love it very much.

Here I think one enhancement might be useful to many of your fans like me:

Do you think it is possible to add an auto backup feature in the Web UI? To backup selected folders at a predefined periodically time, to either an USB disk connected to the front USB port, or a network place?

I know it's pretty easy for Linux expert to add a line in crontab. But for Windows users like me, just following setup guide to setup the firmware. It could be a difficult and error prone job.

I was thinking about this possibility when considering to buy a dual harddisk NAS which can be configured as a RAID server, to ensure my data safety. But in fact, as a home use NAS, I do not update my data so frequently that would require an NAS. In fact, an daily or bi-daily backup to another USB disk connected to the USB port would be quite fine for me. I think this might be true for some other users as well.

Hi dustmud,

You already have this feature present in version 11. :evilwink

Select what you want to save (source, destination and options) and click on "Add Scheduled Backup in Cron"

Then, the menu "Add a job" is displayed and the command line (job) is filled (do not change it if you do not know the options in the rsync command)

Choose the date of execution of the task using the drop-down menus.

Click on "Generate Job Line" and then on the button "Accept".

That's all

Hi Jocko,

Thanks a lot. I just did not notice there is a BACKUP tab there... Shame I..

I am very happy to see this function already there, will give it a try right now.

Cheers,
