as there is some crackling noise in the background...

yes I have that also, I can let it go away by uploading a large file to the nas at same time as the file is playing :crazy

And you need to set in alsa.conf for defaults.pcm.dmix.rate a value equal or lower then the frequency of the wav file. If not it transcodes and you cpu overload and buffer underruns

I've been able to get rid of the crackling in the sound by adding the file: /etc/asound.conf, with contents:

pcm.!default{
type hw
card 0
device 0
}

:thumbup yes this solved it also on my side, where did you find this info ?

cpu load now remains around 3 to 4 % (without transcoding)
now also files are played ok without underrun even when defaults.pcm.dmix.rate is set to 48000 while wave file has 44,1 kHz frequency

ps. I will post mpd after testing

Hi,

I'm afraid I don't remember where I found it. Sorry

I've even managed to get MPD working, quite decently, but the ipkg version is quite old and incompatible with the client I want to use it with.

I'm afraid I don't know, I'll have to try it out, but it should be much better than 0.15.x which is the ipkg one. The 0.15 one doesn't even seem to have native support for ALSA, so I had to resort to using the alsa-oss compatibility layer to make it work.

Hi lexam,

I think you get information from this page : https://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Asoundrc

I finished basic testing and setup of mpd together with alsa and and mpd command line client mpd

It took some time to get mp3 support working.
Now it works for flac, mp3 (these two I tested)
Did not manage yet to get support for wav as well
