Transmission doesn't allow to change download directory ?

Transmission doesn't allow to change download directory ?

Postby Cubytus » Thu Feb 01, 2018 9:05 pm

Hi there,

I have this fvdwsl-equipped LaCie quietly humming, mostly used as a seedbox (its low power doesn't allow it to perform many other functions at the same time).

Whenever I upload a torrent through the Transmission web interface, I don't find the option to change the download directory on-the-fly. However, I clearly recall this option was provided in the past. Does it have anything to do with Transmission version?

Compare upload dialog capture taken from Transmission 2.92b on fvdwsl version 17 with same dialog from the web interface of Transmission 2.84 on Mac OS X:

How do I get this option back?

I read the topics, but it's not too clear wether or not the patch from 2015 does allow such directory to be specified at upload time. The reason is the same as specified in this old topic: some subfolers in tr-download are indexed by remote music players, while others house different content, and tr-downloads is a "catch-all" folder of sorts. Would it work on fvdw version 17?

Also, the upload dialog did show the remaining free space in the past, but doesn't anymore? Is that linked to the same patch?

Hi Cubytus,

The patch is set for version 15.3,we included the change in the later versions, so also with version 17.0.
The changes allows you to set a download folder when you start transmission daemon. So you can set a new one at each start and all new torrent retrieving will have as download folder, this one set at the daemon boot. But I think this behaviour does not allows all you wish.
Cubytus wrote:Also, the upload dialog did show the remaining free space in the past, but doesn't anymore?
Yes, remaining free space was included with the label of the download location field . So the information is also no longer available.

But currently we are working on another change. Several additional features have the same issue: if the user set bad paths in their conf file (eg sickrage and with this feature it is easy to set a wrong), the daemon will write files on the fs partitions and will overload them.
So we are working how the firmware manages write permissions on the fs partitions and later the daemons won't be able to write on these locations :-D
For example with transmission, if you use the option "set location..."
Code: Select all

This change can be only released by a new version. So I am sorry but you need to wait a bit :whistle

A bit late, bit I finally tried to install fvdw-sl-16.0-trdownload-11may15.zip patch with control code "unzip", but it fails to install with error Error: zip file inconsistent with your current firmware version

I guess it's not compatible with 17.0 :(

Hi Cubytus,

Install this path on version 17.0 is useless as this version already allows to set the download folder when you start transmission.

Oops, my bad  . Was this feature included with version 2.93 of Transmission? I just updated Transmission before attempting to install the patch, but didn't try to upload any file yet, and I don't recall this dialog being available in the previous Transmission version, still on fvdwsl version 17.0

This feature is not related with the transmission version. It is a feature supported directly by our firmware which allows to set hardly the download folder before starting transmission.
