Currently I run a convert job on my nwsp2 with the released firmware version 17.0

As the disk is big (3TB) I need to wait several hours to see what happens on nas rebooting

With a nswp2, your issue is amazing as the boot script does not update/delete shares/user accounts according the disks found (eg required for 5/2 bigx)
So the shares would not have to disappear :scratch

My NAS (2TB) was ready in a few minutes. But please have in mind I changed from MBR to GPT. I have no clue if this has an impact.
The protocol on screen reported everything run well.

The shares/users were gone. That's for sure.

Convert job changes only the file system on the user data and does nothing on the partition table.

So to have a gpt or mbr table should not have an impact.

Note: with a 2TB hdd the convert job will run for around 2 hours

Just to be sure what you did:

How did you convert to ext4 :
- use format button
- use button "convert format to ext4 fs

In the first case it is logical to lose shares (but not user account)

No.

I did
- Disk setup
- Initialize hard disks and volumes
- next screen: GPT and ext4
- accept

My ask is not on your last setup job (reset the disk)but the first one when you tried to convert the data partition

Have a nice Sunday

Funny ... but the only thing I can describe is how I did the share convert from ext3 to ext4 file system.

I did
- Disk setup
- Initialize hard disks and volumes
- next screen: GPT and ext4
- accept

I didn't use the Raid button as I only have on HDD in may NWS2 :) To me Raid didn't male sense. So I used the initialize hdd button.

Anyhow the NAS is working and all problems are solved. The FS is now ext4 which was my intension.

Have a nice Sunday, roo.

Ok I understood

You did not try to convert but reset the disk by changing fs and partition table type

So in this case you lose your shares and data.

So for converting an existing ext3 fs, you must open the menu "edit volume" by clicking on volume nameon table disks/volumes

with this menu allows to convert to ext4 whithout losing your data

But there is still an issue about your user account...

I go to test on my development 5big2 if I may reproduce your issue...

Hi wd9895,

Indeed I found a bug if you reset a disk.

Test done on my 5big2:
- on a single volume: I created 3 shares (1 public; 1 public but protected; 1 private); and 2 user accounts with ftp home directory the public share and the other the private share
- reset the disk of the single volume.

So logically the 3 shares exist no longer; on the 2 user accounts the ftp home directy is updated (unvalidfolder) as their previous home exists no longer
but the issue is on the protected public share.
Indeed in this case an hidden user account is created (username=sharename) and the reset job does not delete it when it removes the protected public share.

So after rebooting, the user is recreated and as it is an hidden account, the main user account menu does not list it.

Maybe it was the case with your user gast (did you have a protected public share 'gast' ?)
