Download a regular link with NSP2 ? [ S O L V E D ! ]

Hi fvdw,

I believe that everything you say is correct.
However, the location where I wanted to downloading via wget was "/share/1000/tf-downloads", then I tried the "/share/1000/public"

The size of the diskimage must fit on the partition but the space available will be determined by the size of the disk image of the firmware which 200 MB on this moment.

I understand that.
But then what is needed to make partitions sda1, sda2 and sda7 by 502MB? Because that means the 63-cylinder, converted into MB. I did 512MB partitions on the second installation, just to be a multiple of 8. It is a fault of mine.
Then, it is obvious that the space can handle since it looks like in the screenshot to me.
And please believe me that I looked right after I installed and does not look like this. Sorry, but no longer remember how it was busy each partition.

Even in this case, you think it is nonsense to make those partitions larger?

Please understand (you and Jocko) that I appreciate very much what you do and I do not put these questions to get angry.
Ask these questions because I want to understand how it works.

I understand and that you have other things to do and that you can not stand all day to forum to answer my questions.
So you can answer when you have time, or you can not answer me at all, if you have not time.
My NSP2 it works well anyway thanks to you.

And I'll experiment anyway from now, as we did in the second installation (v11), when I made partitions with GParted.

I noticed that while I write intervened and Jocko, so greet him.

But I have a question for Jocko referring to what he just wrote.
I just add one remark about sda5.

This partition is used by web-explorer (and so php) to upload files. Maximum filesize that you can upload, it's fixed by sda5 freesize.

In this case, you think it is o.k. to make this partitions (sda5) larger too?

Yes, yes, I know what you think now both "This man has an obsession; how to increase the partitions".

P.S. - I noticed that this thread has some clicks.

no problem to ask questions Bozo ;)

the reason of making the partitions 512 MB is to have the possibility to increase the size of the disk image later if more features are added. Thats all. Changing partitions size, especially making them larger is not possible without touching the start cylinder of partition sda8. Which will be required if you want to increase sda1..sda7. If you change the start cylinder of sda8 all information is sda8 will be lost. Therefor we made the partitions a little larger then needed on this moment, just to have the possibility to use a bigger disk image when needed.

Uploading files to sda5 is not a good idea to my opinion, think it is better to do that to sda8 (on lacie devices), web-explorer is still in development and will advice Jocko to change that

Ok Bozo29, some more explanation.

Today, the upload function is used in two cases:
- For updates (about 200 MB file)
- By web-explorer.

The current limit is approximately 720MB with nwsp2. The question to ask is then if it is interesting to upload bigger files with a connection Internet where the up speed is not high.

I think this case is very hypothetical

It's a php setting !
Before moving the file in the destination folder, the file is uploaded in a system folder /tmp which is on sda5 !
and if we have enlarge disk image later, there are issue with the other NAS where their limit is around 350MB today

After the dialogue I had with you I crossed my mind something and I would like to ask your opinion.

Just hypothetically speaking, if I make every upgrade from scratch, without using the web interface, just hypothetically speaking, NSP2 would work without sda2, only 7 partitions instead of 8?

In principle, it is possible but then I'm pretty sure that you can not mount the partition shares: some parameters must be changed in the database (and maybe in some php code, a check should be done)

O.K.
I feel embarrassed.

I should have know that.
It's like writing a 10MB image on a 700MB CD. After you burn a CD, it will appear as if it were full.

Shame on me.

Here's what I got after I had ambition to do a test and make 1GB partitions (sda1, sda2 and sda7):
nsp2-1gba.png

As you can see, the space left free after I installed fvdw-sl is 70.69MB. Even if the image size is ~ 200MB.
Exactly the same remains free on a 512MB partition.
No matter how big do partitions (sda1, 2 and 7), the remaining free space, after a installation is always the same.

This is a job you should open a new topic. And the title should be something like:
"Learn how to waste space on Hard Disk"

Of course as soon as I saw the result, I repartition the HDD as it was before.
But in graphical mode, with GParted, not with fdisk.

I wish you good evening, gentlemen,

Bozo

Nice experience, Bozo29 :D
You just proved by experience that fvdw told you!

In addition to what Jocko mentioned and quoted. Indeed the firmware disk image is currently 200 MB. This disk image of 200MB contains all the files of the firmware and these files takes about 130 MB inside the disk image thats why you get 70 MB as free space mentioned. ;)
I know using a 200 MB disk image on a 512 MB partition is waste of space and we could use a bigger image. But there is currently no need for that. As said reserving 512MB is for future purpose when we need to increase the disk image size to contain the firmware after adding more features.

ps in this topic viewtopic.php?f=11&t=405&p=2384#p2384 a how to is given if you want to play with optware and increase size of the /opt folder without filling up the system partition
In fact the /opt folder is then relocated to the big partition sda8
I do not recommend to use optware especially when you are not so experienced with Linux. Optware contains in many cases bugs and might influence the stability of the firmware but of course it is up to you what to do with your NAS :) You can always re-install or firmware if it goes wrong

Hi to both of you,

I have an ideea and a question, sorry 2 questions.

Ideea:
Can you put in firmware (if it's no very hard) MC (Midnight Commander), for easier work with files.

Questions:
1. Can you change (in the web interface I mean) "IP address" with "web address" for "NTP servers" ? Because IPs can change.
2. You can do larger image, even without adding more features? Just getting a little more space for those who want to experience.
Let's say the free remaining space would be 100-150MB instead of 70MB.
It is possible?

I think this topic has created a new verb "to firmware"
But first, second and third person are all me.

I firmware for me ....
I firmware for you ....
I firmware for he (she) ....
.... and who else is necessary.

Thanks for the link fvdw, Jocko gave me yesterday too and I have already read. Maybe I will try in the near future.

Cheers!

O.K.

First:
I moved the folder '/opt' to the partition sda8 and I created a symlink, respecting the guidelines of fvdw.

Then:
1. I put the file 'wget' in the folder /opt/bin and set it executable and I changed the path in 'torentflux ......... etc.
2. I installed and I started p910nd printer daemon.
...... and a little bonus:
3. I installed Midnight Commander.

Everything works flawlessly.

Thank you for helping fvdw and Jocko and because you made this firmware so stable.
Thanks to you, I seriously think to buy another NWSP2, because I am very pleased with how it works.
