[Solved] NAS not found when directly attached to PC eth port

[Solved] NAS not found when directly attached to PC eth port

Postby Maxiride » Sat Apr 23, 2016 11:27 am

For a faster file transfer I attached the Lacie Cloudbox directly to the ethernet port of my laptop.
However in the Network devices it doesn't appear, furthermore the IP I manually set (192.168.1.70) in the fvdw config is unreachable even if it isn't used by other devices. I'm using windows 10.

How can I directly access via ethernet the nas? Is there something wrong? With the Lacie stock firmware I used to type lacie-cloudbox.local in the address bar to access the admin page, and the folders inside the Lacie were directly accessible via the file manager I'm using.

Do you know that this way of connecting is missing a dhcp server? Do you know what a dhcp server is?

If so, you should know how to set it up. The main goal is to set both sides to the same subnet, it's recommend to use the subnet the cloudbox used before when it was attached to your router. Your PC must not have the same IP adress as the cloudbox.

What did you set up so far?

I do know what a DHCP server is (in theory) but I have no clue about how to set it up on my laptop to be able to attach the cloudbox directly to the laptop ethernet port. I'll google a bit, but can you point me in the right direction too if possibile?

You could set the IP of your computer to 1.71, but I recommend to connecting your Computer to your router via ethernet. Its the same result, but not so complicated.

I've solved by leaving the Nas settings unchanged from its custom IP and from the ipv4 settings under my ethernet adapter panel I set the same IP except for the last digits

For instance I set on the Nas 192.168.1.70 and in the ipv4 settings on the laptop 192.168.1.71

:scratch did you make a type error in your laptop ip?

I think it should be 192.178.1.71 instead of 192.168.7.71
Or you nas has as ip 192.168.1.70 instead of 192.178.1.70

192.178 is very unusual or you must have set it by purpose
