question about file capsule

question about file capsule

Postby Glaven Clattuck » Mon Jun 27, 2016 1:37 pm

a silly question, maybe. ;)

Currently in my 5Big2, is operative the capsule version 2.2.3 (2011-12-12).
I did a search using the find command, and this is the result:

Code: Select all
[root@LaCie-5big ~]# find / -name *.capsule
/lacie/autoupdate/.auto_update/5bignetwork2_2.2.12.2.capsule
/media/internal_1/autoupdate/.auto_update/5bignetwork2_2.2.12.2.capsule

In practice this is what I've downloaded automatically from the Dashboard, when Nas warned me to do the upgrade.
If it is there, because the Lacie does not see, and not use it?
Another question, along with .capsule files there is another with .xml extension, what is it?

Hi Glaven Clattuck,

version 2.2.12.2 is the lastest version available from lacie ftp server.
According the pathnames, this folder (or files) will be used to download the capsule if you use the auto-update feature.

basicaly, a capsule merges two files :
- a xml file which gives information about the version (not compressed)
- a compressed archive file
I assume you see a xml file on your NAS because auto-update feature needs to read xml file to get information (version date; compatibility with older versions; ...)

yes Glaven, I think you can delete them.

But to be sure you can rename them first and reboot the NAS to see what happens, for example
Code: Select all
mv /lacie/autoupdate/.auto_update/5bignetwork2_2.2.12.2.capsule /lacie/autoupdate/.auto_update/5bignetwork2_2.2.12.2.capsule.old
