fvdw not seen in Windows 7, can still connect manually

Postby Cubytus » Sun Apr 24, 2016 7:23 pm

I activated the Samba server on fvdw for quick sharing with a Windows 7 PC, but unlike the other NASes and computers on the LAN, it doesn't show itself as a connected computer in the left pane of Windows Explorer, but I can still reach it with its raw IP.

fvdwsl-base is not shown
\\fvdwsl-base.local\ doesn't work

but

\\192.168.1.10\ does, however. I assigned a virtual drive letter, but I would like the LaCie to behave like all other computers on the LAN, and properly announce itself to this Windows PC. This is especially important as I can't modify the HOSTS file, since 192.168.1.10 could be a completely different device on another LAN.

Does it have anything to do with the incorrect hostname displaying in the modem?

Check the workgroup between your win7 and Cloudbox : it must be the same

Ok, I set WORKGROUP for both of them, but now it only displays its IP address in the left pane of Windows explorer, not the hostname. And I noticed another issue where the second DNS server is not correctly taken from the router:

why do these incorrect behaviors happen?
