New kernel test: download unstable

New kernel test: download unstable

Postby uelpenich » Fri Mar 04, 2016 7:51 pm

To test the new kernel I did some heavy copy jobs.
I used a set of 16 binary files, each 1GByte large, and copied them from a Windows10 laptop with SDD to a 2big2 NAS with the latest kernel UIMAGE-433-KIRKWOOD-7. Network wired ethernet and a gigabit switch.
I created and checked md5 checksums.

1) from Windows10 laptop to 2big2: o.k. speed ~25MBytes / s
2) from 2big2 to Windows10 laptop: unstable. ~60MBytes / s
Network disconnection after 2 . . 6 GBytes of data, ~1 of 16 files had md5 checksum error.

Hi werner

Yes we have detected this issue on 4.3.3 version mainly when you use rsync. You should have some errors reported in dmesg (about tiny fragment)

Success.
I did the same copy test as above.

Results:
no network disconnections, all md5 checksums are correct.
downloadspeed slightly lower ~57 MBytes / s
no entry in dmesg.

Hi Werner,

Can you try to do this:
- make a backup from a folder containing few large files (filesize > 1,5 GB)
- play a video if you have
- in the same time, try to make either a samba transfer with a large file or run a 2d backup still from a folder with several large files.

So when backup or transfer are ended, check if you do not have this warning message
Code: Select all
[ 1307.851310] mv643xx_eth_port mv643xx_eth_port.0 eth0: failed to linearize skb with tiny unaligned fragment

Note: I did not get them at each time (but around 2 times on 3)
