You should extract it and from a laptop you may use manufactor's tool to check its health (SMART tool)

ok will try this, if i can repair the disk i just install the firm the normal way right?

Yes if it may be repaired, you can try again to install the firmware.

But: look at its attributes (especially prefail attributes). Maybe it would be better to change it if you want to store some valuable data on it.

Ok so far, i connected the disk to my pc and tested s.m.a.r.t with SeaTools it passed, i did also a short basic diagnostic also passed, it seems that the HD is looking good though. Should i delete all the partitions again and try it one more time?

With short/basic checks, SMART tool does not scan the disk. You must do a full check and it needs a few hours to do it

As you use Seatools and it has a long generic test, you may use it.

See its doc : http://www.seagate.com/files/www-conten ... ows-es.pdf
