Req: Firmware upgrade menu

Req: Firmware upgrade menu

Postby johan72 » Sat Jan 14, 2012 9:24 am

It would be nice to only show the Firmware upgrade options by device only.
As I see it, it should be possible to determine on which device the firmware is running,
and with that knowledge only present the applicable option.

For example: it shows the current Firmware version, which contains the device name.

Actually I think it's better to use the found hardware version(s) instead of an firmware label.

A second and far minor request.
The first warning mentioned In the Lacie-Firmware menu, refers to the Networkspace 1 and 2.
I know this comes from its legacy, presently more LaCie devices are supported!

It's just my 2 cents,

Keep up the good work.

Hi Johan72,

This is already partly planned in the next version  (and is in testing) where the menus (not only firmware menus) and some features will be available based on the device.

I agree with you the first warning lacie menu should be changed.

Good WE

Ok good to hear its already in testing.
Another suggestion on which you may have been working already.

Are there any plans in altering the upgrade procedure, it would be nice to protect
the NAS from being updated with the wrong firmware.

This could be done, rigth after step1, by performing a file check on step 2 activation.
Complete with file deletion, when found a "faulty" or "wrong" image file.

Normally spoken you may expect, users being able to modify their NAS in this matter, know what they are doing.
But, we all know sometime a small mistake or lack of attention can cause lots of problems.

Since version 9.1, the script checks if the uploaded file is in accordance with the user's device.
This test is done as you suggested after step 1! ;)

PS: I already uploaded once by careless a wrong file and the test allowed me not to be in the s...

Ok, I too once made the mistake by using the Philips page instead of LaCie,
but discovered my fault rigth after step 1.

Nice to know, that a failsafe exists already.
However the present warnings, caused me to believe not to.
