Hey Jocko fvdw and all others ;)
I would like to stream my music over the internet (and possibly video too) to f.e. my smartphone.
Any ideas on how to do that? Now I have samba port-forwarded and limited the access ip range to my mobile internet provider (which has dynamic ip).
First of all I don't think it's very safe to do that (although I use a non-standard port number) and second of all I have to download each song on my phone to play.
I could do the same for the DLNA server but that's even more unsafe because it doesn't ask for user credentials.
Does anyone some work around for me?
I got some ideas but I wouldn't know what software I have to ask fvdw to compile for me ;)
(ffmpeg is working great by the way, much quicker than the optware package, many thanks)
My ideas:
1) VPN/Hamachi kinda thing in combination with DLNA
2) Shoutcast which streams a playlist 24/7 (unprotected/music-only/no choice in music/always cpu-load)
3) Some existing solution which shares a media library with user credentials, something like a Spotify server
The third option is what I'm really looking for but I'm willing to compromise.
It does not have to be pentagon-secure (but the more secure the better) and it would be great if it has multi-user support.
Free/open-source software is preferred of course (hey I'm Dutch) but paid software is also ok. I own all the music on cd, so I don't like to pay monthly for it like Spotify.
Thanks for your thoughts in advance and the best wishes for 2012
