FVDW firmware "Case Install"

Okay, but I have no idea what my router is preventing. Everything is open.
Did you try putty on an original Lacie FW ? It simply rejects your attempt.

Anyhow. Not today, not tonight.

Thanks.

Yes the lacie firmware doesn't allow ssh access. There are hacks around to enable it.

Just to be sure that you followed the right procedure. You cannot activate the u-boot console when the lacie firmware is running. You must switch off the nas and leave it connected to the network. Then start in the fvdw-sl console the action u-boot console. Only when this uboot console mentions waiting for uboot power up the nas. Then the magic should happen.

I know that, I even unplugged it and waited for the console.

Success. It worked.
I selected a fresh cisco routr with "factory settings" and all went fine.
But I'm not sure what role my Fritzbox 7490 should block. Could it be the case that your console has a problem with the IP range of the Fritzbox (192.168.178.x) ?

Another remark on speed. The original Lacie FW seems to be more than double in speed compared to fvdw firmware. That's at least what Win7 reports in the file transfer box and it also feels this way.

Do you have any hint to enhance the speed ?

No the ip range should be no problem.
About speed, more mentioned this. It seems that older kernels 2.6.x range have a higher speed then the 3.x versions. This might be because of the additional features of the newer kernels.
Lacie still use the 2.6 kernels. I will do some test to see if there is a difference as result of the kernel. On my nwsp2 I achieve 20 to 25 MB/s when transferrin big files which is for most applications high enough for me. Of course a higher speed would better

I did some test with a nwsp2

kernel 2.6.39.4
write 21 MB/s
read 30 Mb/s

kernel 3.14.2
write 20 MB/s
read 36 MB/s

kernel 3.18.2 (experimental, with setup for wireless space)
write 9 MB/s (not good)
read 30 MB/s

However on a 5big2 I reach with 3.14.2
write 30 MB/s
read 61 MB/s

3.18.21 on 5big2
write 20 MB/s
read 55 MB/s

conclusion 3.18.21 has an issue with write speed compared with 3.14.2 (unclear for me why :scratch )
kernel 3.14.2 is comparable to 2.36.9.4

What speeds do you get ?

That's a big test ;)

I saw the values in the windows explorer windows when I saved the files to my PC (with SSD) before changing the FW from Lacie to 16.1.
After the change restoring back the files the file transfer rate went down from 30MB/s to 13MB/s average.
That's huge but could be influenzed by the difference of reading and writing.

I thought support for D2N2 was only added in 16-1.
I will check things out this evening when I am at home
