I think that the ata controler has issues to manage correctly your seagate disks and I assume that with your last boot, sdd is not yet bind by the kernel when the boot script tried to assemble the raid.

Can you post your dmesg

Re: Error creating Raid 5

Postby Jocko » Mon Oct 12, 2015 7:11 pm

Code: Select all
[  302.633682] md: kicking non-fresh sdd8 from array!
This can happen after an unclean shutdown.

Note: currently NCQ is disabled for ata1, ata3,ata4 and ata5. So in this session you should not have more ata errors for sda, sdb sdc and sde.
Code: Select all
[  507.834139] ata3.00: NCQ disabled due to excessive errors

I expect later same result on ata2 (sdd)

Thanks fo testing, probably it still needs to become a little smaller. We should get a line that it uncompresses the kernel. So back to the drawing board to see if we can reduce the size, think we need about 30 kb less. If it then doesn't run we have another issue causing boit failure

A new kernel, this one is clearly smaller then th 3.14.2 so it should load properly without overwriting u-boot

Re: Error creating Raid 5

Postby Jocko » Thu Oct 15, 2015 5:50 pm

Hi b1gnas,

This is done by your ata controller issue : when the nas is booting and the firmware tries to assemble the raid, sometimes a disk may be not available (when the kernel unbind it before trying again to link up the disk).

It is why you will get this error as long as NCQ feature is available by default and I expect the kernel version 3.18.21 won't change nothing.
