Edit
OK, I'll start again.
Hi
Only rarely do I get involved with the "geeky" aspects of this excellent firmware - because I almost immediately get out of my depth when I do. By and large, I want it to "just work" with as little intervention from me as possible. (My experience when I departed from this rule by trying to use CRON to make backups has not so far been a happy one!)
Whereas changing console just means downloading the latest .rar set, extracting it and clicking on its .exe file, upgrading the firmware involves using the web interface. I'm frequently confused by the difference between the two processes - stupid I know but...
Up to now I've used console ver. 5.3 which (so far as I remember) was the version I installed at the start. Since then there've been two upgrades, to 5.4 (now deprecated) and within the last few days to 5.5. Thinking that perhaps it was about time I brought myself up to date I downloaded and extracted ver. 5.5.
I then became confused as to what to do next and at some point switched mentally into "firmware mode", whereby I began by selecting 'Standalone kernel, load and start' from the console's 'Action' menu. In hindsight I don't know why I did this but anyway having progressed with the installer script to the point where a warning comes up that answering 'Yes' to the question then being asked will cause all data on the disk to be erased I hastily answered 'No' and got the hell out of there!
The result is that I now seem to have no firmware version at all installed any longer, and my browser can't establish any connection with the NS2. Can I please have some guidance as to how I can reinstate fvdwsl's functionality?
EDIT
OK, I've solved that :doh Just re-booted the PC, pulled-out the power lead to the NS2 and after a pause reinserted it, waited for the LED to dtop blinking, then via Assistant regained access to the web interface. So all is well.
However I have another (related) question, but will use a new post for that.
