Custom DDNS

Custom DDNS

Postby iamola » Thu May 21, 2015 8:04 pm

I used to use No-IP but my job blocks most of their address.
So i figured there had to be a better way to do this using my own domain name than other services where i have to keep re-activating.

Anyways, long story short, i did this on my domain name, created my own DDNS using a sub-domain on my website domain, so i was wondering, in the next release, under the DDNS setting, could you add a Custom one, since i do not need user name and password and mine would never expire or none of that.

Thanks.

Hi iamola,

I am sorry but I don't understand you.

Currently the DDNS feature in the firmware is only to allow a remote service (the DNS provider) to update the DDNS account with your current public IP when the DDNS feature sends an update request.

The firmware does nothing else with the DNS set by the the DDNS feature even if it may reuse it automatically for setting the certificate for https and ftpes servers but you already can enter manually your sub-domain in those menus.

So I don't understand your suggestion :scratch

I see.
So for something like what i did, using my active domain name and changing the info of one of the subdomains to point to my home NAS, you would just need one that says Custom, but not does send any info or anything since it has to be Manually done.

All i did was take a sub domain (from my hosted website) and pointed it to my NAS using the A friend in the DNS edit of WHM.
