RAID5 & 5*3TB HDD - fvdw-sl 16 see only 0.50GB disk space.

Hi,

I started my journey with a Lacie 5BIG 10TB (5*3TB Harddrive RAID5) using Lacie stock firmware. I have installed firmware 15-1 and upgrade successfully to 15-2, 15-3 and 16-0. I have access to the admin panel right now.
In attachment you will see my Disk Setup / Manage disk and volumes panel informations. Something goes wrong with partition table :
for /dev/sda i got :
Code: Select all
root@fvdwsl-base:/ # gdisk /dev/sda
GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.5

Partition table scan:
  MBR: protective
  BSD: not present
  APM: not present
  GPT: present

Found valid GPT with protective MBR; using GPT.

Command (? for help): p
Disk /dev/sda: 5860533168 sectors, 2.7 TiB

for /dev/sdb (same for sdc,sdd and sde) I got :

I don't know how to proceed right now in order to get my RAID5 10TB volume back online.

Do you have an idea? :hail

:scratch the partiton table of sda is not correct
this what you post
Code: Select all
Number  Start (sector)    End (sector)  Size       Code  Name
   1         4050944         5099519   512.0 MiB   8300  Linux filesystem
   2         5099520         6148095   512.0 MiB   8300  Linux filesystem
   3         4040704         4042571   934.0 KiB   0700  primary
   4         4044800         4046848   1.0 MiB     0700  primary
   5         7196672      5860533134   2.7 TiB     FD00  Linux RAID
   6         1576960         4040703   1.2 GiB     8300  Linux filesystem
   7            4096         1052671   512.0 MiB   8300  Linux filesystem
   8         6148096         7196671   512.0 MiB   8300  Linux filesystem

Partiton 5, 6 and 8 have the wrong size, also partition 5 has the wrong file ID.
This table allows running the firmware but it is not the right way. The fvdw-sl firmware is using sdx8 partitions for data, in your case sda8 is only 512 MB so what the web interface mentions is correct. The error you made is that you have not correctly setup the partiton en corresponding sizes. Partition 5 should be 768 MB, partition 6 8 MB and partition 8 2.7 TB

You will need to start over and use proper partition table, you could use the fvdw-sl console with fvdw-sl installer, delete all partitons on sda when using the installer script.
Only install sda in your 5big2 (most lefthand slot seen from back side) when installing the firmware. Add the other disks later as explained in the tutorial after you have the firmware installed on sda and successfully boot the firmware

PS Delete all partitions on the other disk as well as they contain the lacie setup which is different from fvdw-sl, if don't do that then you won't be able to use them properly.

Hi ! thx for your reply ! i was waiting to be at home in order to test it.

I have delete all partition and i have recreate 8 partition folowing size and preset code from another post on this forum.

After that i re-install kernel from standalone kernel with only sda in the drive. (I alve also deleted all partition from sdb, sdc, sdd, sde) in order to have only sdx8 with all spaces on the other drive.

Here is my gdisk output for sda :
Code: Select all
root@fvdwsl-base:/ # gdisk /dev/sda
GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.5

Partition table scan:
  MBR: protective
  BSD: not present
  APM: not present
  GPT: present

Found valid GPT with protective MBR; using GPT.

I don't understund why partition 9 is created.

In managed disk, i only see "Disk-A" as unformated... i don't see anymore sdb, sdc, sdd, sde ... What i did is wrong?

Thanks for your help

Hi BlinkGuy06,

I don't understund why partition 9 is created.

In managed disk, i only see "Disk-A" as unformated...
The firmware expects the last partition as the data partition,so sda9, and sda9 seems to be a swap partition. Then the firmware detects it as an unformatted partition.
So you need to delete the last partition.

if these disks have the same partition than you have posted previously
Code: Select all
Number  Start (sector)    End (sector)  Size       Code  Name
   1         4036608         4038655   1024.0 KiB  0700  primary

   3         4040704         4042571   934.0 KiB   0700  primary
   4         4044800         4046848   1.0 MiB     0700  primary
   5            2048          514047   250.0 MiB   0700  primary
   6          530432          546497   7.8 MiB     0700  primary
   7          546816          578945   15.7 MiB    0700  primary
   8          579584         2266409   823.6 MiB   0700  primary
   9         2267136         4018221   855.0 MiB   0700  primary
  10         4020224         4036289   7.8 MiB     0700  primary
it is the expected behaviour. You need to set the right partition table as described in the first install help.

Alright !

All my 5 drive has exact same 8 partition. I follow the RAID tutorial and everythings is now working, raid is under reconstruction.

This firmware is very good job ! Just missing RAID control from GUI. :)

Thanks for your help !
