Hi,

same problem with fvdw 15 on SPD8020 with original Hitachi 500GB drive. Standby with WOL and wake-up via magic packet works fine, but disk is spinning in WOL. Is there any chance for a patch in the near future?

Cheers Holger

Hello,

Could it be that this little bug dropped off the todo list? We are one year ahead, and this is exactly what is happening to my NSvs2.... running on the latest firmware.
Would be nice if this is fixed as it would prevent my nas from drawing 10 watts during 2/3 of the day that I'm not using it..

thanks for reminding, I will have a look.
Instead of using WOL you can also do nothing, if there is no disk activity the disk should go to standby after the time set in the web interface. In WOL mode it will use same amout of energy as when disk is in standby mode.

I checked it on my nwsp2 but it works as expected

so please connect via ssh and try this command on the command line, be sure to use upper case Y in this command !

Code: Select all
sync
/usr/sbin/hdparm -Y /dev/sda

Listen to the hard disk it should be switched to standby and probably it will be starting up again immediately
If it doesn't attempt to go to standby then your hard disk doesn't support standby command (not likely)

I think we forgot to apply this updated wol binary in the firmware  :whistle

put the attached zip archive in the "fvdw" shared folder

open web interface and select upload patch menu
select the zip file and use as control code "unzip"

It will mention if the patch is installed ok.

This wol-fvdw-sl version will check 3 times if the disk goes and stay on standby. If after three at temps it still fails it gives up.
