what is the size in the of the image file ( xfvdw-sl-15-1-nwsp2-18feb2014.img)in tftp\nwms2 folder ?

It seems to have uploaded a file with size of zero bytes

example how looks like on my system (I use another name in this example as that file is on my system)
Code: Select all
root@(none):/ # mkdir sda5
root@(none):/ # mount /dev/sda5 /sda5
root@(none):/ # tftp -r nwsp2/xfvdw-sl-15-1-nwsp2-9feb2014.img -l /sda5/firmware.img -g 192.168.1.44
nwsp2/xfvdw-sl-15-1-  47% |***********************************************
nwsp2/xfvdw-sl-15-1- 100% |********************************************************************************************|   250M  0:00:00 ETA
root@(none):/ #
root@(none):/ # ls -al /sda5/firmware.img
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root     262144000 Jul 19 10:21 /sda5/firmware.img
root@(none):/ #

You're right.

The 'Properties' tab (in Windows Explorer) for that file gives its size as "0 bytes"

attached the two files you need. (unpack the rar archive, unpacking one is sufficient, winrar will automatically unpack all three of them) an put the files in the tftp/nwsp2 folder to replace the ones which are there with same names

Now try again to upload them and writ them to the partitions as described earlier

I'm hopelessly confused!

I downloaded the three .rar files (your post refers to two, but I guess that was just a typo), unpacked one and got a folder containing one file. But this isn't an .img file - it's a .bin file
put the files in the tftp/nwsp2 folder to replace the ones which are there with same names
"files" (plural) "the ones" (plural) "the same names" (in my nwsp2 folder are no files with the same name or names).

EDIT
I think i (dimly) see the problem. It seems I've not understood what "unpacking" means; there seems to be more than one (multiple?) layers inside the .rar file and I haven't been unpacking them all.

The trouble is I now have a whole lot of different packages downloaded and I no longer know which is which or which belongs where.

I wish I could start again with a clean sheet!

I've tried to clear up the mess. Here's a screenshot of my nwsp2 folder as it now looks. Does it look right to you?

EDIT
I note that the .rar files attached to your latest post contain xfvdw_ and UIMAGE_ files which are different from (of an earlier date than) those which I now have in my nwsp2 folder. Which pair is the right one?

EDIT 2
I've checked the size of both .img files and it's the same (250 MB each).

:disapprove indeed you are making a mess, but no problem we work also with those files

If this is the current content of your nwsp2 folder then repeat the procedure as decribed earlier here viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1894&p=15551#p15551 but adapt two command lines

replace this command
Code: Select all
tftp -r nwsp2/xfvdw-sl-15-1-nwsp2-18feb2014.img -l /sda5/firmware.img -g 192.168.11.3

by this command
Code: Select all
tftp -r nwsp2/xfvdw-sl-15-3-nwsp2-30may2014.img -l /sda5/firmware.img -g 192.168.11.3

and replace this command
Code: Select all
tftp -r nwsp2/UIMAGE-395-NWSP2CL-199 -l /uimage -g 192.168.11.3

by this command
Code: Select all
tftp -r nwsp2/UIMAGE-3136-NWSP2CL-19 -l /uimage -g 192.168.11.3

the rest of the commands remains unchanged

hopefully it will work now

Hi

You have the patience of a saint :hail

Now I'm taking a weekend break (= working outdoors, sauna, maybe a brief dip in the sea...)

Will resume real work (= this!) as soon as possible.

Cheers for now.

Hi fvdw

Much refreshed, back at my keyboard.

First I must explain something. You may remember my cri de coeur "I wish I could start again with a clean sheet!". Well rather than just wish I subsequently determined to do something about it so after stepping back and calmly re-examining the mess I'd got into I sorted it out myself. What I did was to restore the nwsp2 folder to its original state (so please ignore my post to which I attached a screenshot of that folder after I'd messed it up).

Consequently in the code I will show next, you will see that all the inputs are as they were in your original instructions, there being no need any more to change them.

You'll see that, finally, all has gone exactly as it was meant to - until we get to the last hurdle, namely
Last step we need to forma sda8 because also that was not done
I imagine that it was denial of permission which at every previous attempt was stopping the formatting of that partition. Does 'chmod ...' need to be input?

Btw I thought I should mention that during the past several days my PC has been showing signs of being seriously unwell (I'm talking hardware, but seriously corrupting the software running on it - including Windows itself). If it gets worse/inoperable I shall have to start taking it to pieces and swapping-out components to try to diagnose where the fault lies.

If this happens, communication may become difficult and/or interrupted for a while...
