When using subtitles (in example) Plex needs to transcode de video, before stream, so i don't think NS2 will have the power to use plex properly, specially using HD files.

we'll see. keep in mind that synology firmware it's much eater in resources then fvdw-sl firmware. Let's hope that it will have at least the power to do subs and to send movies as they are. i will be pleased even with this since all my devices that use plex can decode anything.

It seems to use large ressource
Code: Select all
PID USER      PR  NI  VIRT  RES  SHR S %CPU %MEM    TIME+  COMMAND
 7713 plex      35  15  176m  20m  768 S  0.6  8.5   2:00.12 python
 7702 plex      20   0  192m 5048 1964 S  0.0  2.0   0:09.72 Plex Media Serv
 7759 plex      20   0  160m 3444 1164 S  0.0  1.4   0:10.67 Plex DLNA Serve
 7792 plex      20   0  129m  16m  768 S  0.0  6.9   0:33.06 python

So this feature will be only available on NAS with at least 64MB RAM (or 128MB  )

I confirm that this feature should be install via an add-on.

Now, need to make a clean install process

think it will be available end June.

Any news regarding plex? I have seen on their site that server has been updated a few times this year.

Ok, sorry for late reply, i have installed plex in my old but gold ns2. This one serves only as media storage for me since it has a 3tb drive. i have on this one only tv series and a few movies.
All went well, plex installed without problems, so far so good, next step-add media, so i have tried to add only 15 finished tv series that are not so big(many seasons many eps) and at this point....... error. Even after 5 hours it was still on discovery, blocked a few times and had to restart service at hand, and after this..... seeing that it's blocking and it has a lot of lag on accessing it i said stop.
Let's try with only a few movies, 10 of them at 720p, so i have stoped, cleaned the install and start from 0.
Again, install-all ok, entered in plex, added the 10 movies but hard on scan, too slow, after 2 blocking of plex service all was ok but to play one of them on an lg tv without transcoding was a hard job for it. has a few lags and so... all i can tell it's that it's working, but too hard for my old ns2.
Thanks Jocko for this add-on but i will remain to use it on home made synology since like this i will block my ns2.

When a firmware with raid will be available for my 2bignetwork2 i will test on that one firmware and plex also since it has more power to see what it's happening.

Hi fantomel,

I am not surprised with your feedbacks with a nwsp2

Plex uses a lot of memory for each resource and please note also that when you add some plugins, about 15-20 MB is used in addition for each plugin! So with a nwsp2, the fs must swap the system memory.

I tested Plex feature with my 5big2 and it never hangs even if I added 3 TV channel. It succeed to scan a big media folders (>200GB) and I can see several movies (1080p and filesize >GTB).
