Save original firmware for later restoration

so your problem is that your sdb disk has wrong partition types. It uses 0700 as id while the should be 8300
0700 is an id used for microsoft basic data like fat32
You can correct it easily by using gdisk as this a disk with gpt partition table
Code: Select all
gdisk /dev/sdb

in gdisk use the command "t" (without quotes) to change the partition type of all partitions (use 8300 instead of 0700)

Don't forget to use "w" to write the changes to disk
After that you will need again a reboot to let the kernel read the adapted table

PS Changing the partition type should not harm the data on the disk as long as you leave the start and end sector settings as they are but I do not give guarantees.

When you prepared the nwsp2 disk in the past you made apparently a mistake with the partition types :disapprove

That's it! :applause :applause :applause
I redid shares from my memory and these shares then show all the files like before!

How is it possible this worked in nwsp2 stable for long time?
Shall I dare to plug it as system disk in slot 1 of 5big 2?

:punk

On single drive system this kind of checks is not made but it also surprises me

Using it as system disk
Yes as said in the early beginning it should be possible to use it as system disk in slot 1.
There is one condition and that is that the nas database file on partition 5 of your nwsp2 disk should be not corrupt.
If it works normally on the nwsp2 with the changed partition id's then the database is ok and putting it in the 5big2 should work as well, but you will need to upgrade the firmware with the 5big2 package to get the right kernel modules loaded

It is running as system disk now. And fortunately it picked up all the other shares that I did not renew before. I will let it go for some days now and see.. .
Thank you very much !

It is still running fine.

Did you change something regarding the wifi in 15.3 ? I cannot get the USB dongle driver loaded. It does not show up in the webinterface.

Do I need new drivers for the new kernel?

Of course it runs fine :-D

I assume you mean wifi dongle ?
Yes you will need a new driver as the kernel is upgraded

try this one, if I remember well your dongle needed the 8712u driver

funny I thought I included it in the kernel :scratch

---edit
file removed as this kernel driver is not working properly, see some posts below for new one
