PLEX

Hi Mijzelf,

Thank for the link.

What I read, confirms my opinion after a first look about the required resources for PLEX and it must be an addon (can not be installed on the system partition).

For our firmware we need to write new shell scripts to start/stop/... PMS

I succeeded to run plex media server on a nwsp2 :-D

It seems to use large ressource
Code: Select all
PID USER      PR  NI  VIRT  RES  SHR S %CPU %MEM    TIME+  COMMAND
 7713 plex      35  15  176m  20m  768 S  0.6  8.5   2:00.12 python
 7702 plex      20   0  192m 5048 1964 S  0.0  2.0   0:09.72 Plex Media Serv
 7759 plex      20   0  160m 3444 1164 S  0.0  1.4   0:10.67 Plex DLNA Serve
 7792 plex      20   0  129m  16m  768 S  0.0  6.9   0:33.06 python

So this feature will be only available on NAS with at least 64MB RAM (or 128MB  )

I confirm that this feature should be install via an add-on.

Now, need to make a clean install process

think it will be available end June.

This would be a great development for this device.

But, this resource usage is while streaming a video, os just for the plex server running ?

Great work!

Hi guanabara,

This resource usage is just when the pms is running with no share scanning and active streaming. So more ressource are need with a streaming :(

you can say that our ns2 it's almost a Synology DS212j (except cpu speed, our has 800Mhz) and according to plex supported nas list (https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201373803) you can see that Plex it's instalable but no transcoding it's supported since "CPU Below Minimum Recomended Spec, Transcoding Not supported"

You are right, about transcoding and I already wrote some lines about it.

But currently you can not say that plex is unstable with our firmware because we don't have the same kernel. After some short tries, I noted nothing but it is not enough.

More information end June.
