that will take some time...
First need to make a backup of my existing system. (its running), then upgrade and recompile the fvdw-sl console. I would appreciate if you could test it

but what happens if you continue, we only use simple stuff of cygwin, as long as it loads the external kernel to the nas you can continue.

I'll test anything for you, if it helps to accomplish what I want:)

If I continue the process by turning the NAS on, nothing happens. The error message remains, and the NAS boots normally (with the stock kernel, I suppose. Can I check this somehow?)

I can of course write the image permanently, if it only a matter of rewriting the original if I encounter any difficulties. Or should I wait for your new console app?

BTW, my USB dongle is 150Mbit. What speeds should I be expecting from the disk, running wirelessly?

Hi steean

I can test the fvdwsl-console with a windows8.1 and indeed you get a warning but this does not prevent to initiate the u-boot console:
Code: Select all
provided by fvdw
waiting for u-boot..
      1 [main] clunc-open 3456 find_fast_cwd: WARNING: Couldn't compute FAST_CWD
pointer.  Please report this problem to
the public mailing list cygwin@cygwin.com
starting u-boot net console click on window and press enter
      1 [main] nc 3980 find_fast_cwd: WARNING: Couldn't compute FAST_CWD pointer
.  Please report this problem to
the public mailing list cygwin@cygwin.com

Marvell>>

So you must have an issue with your LAN (firewall, antivirus,..)

Aw, sorry. I'll make another attempt. I got all sorts of popups, but disabled the firewall afterwards - same error. Windows is not my primary OS, so I haven't quite tamed it yet:p

I upgraded cygwin in the meantime, and I now can compile a 64 bits version and 32 bits version of the fvdw-sl console
Both work on on my windows 7 64 bits version I will post them tonight.

Of course it worked this time around, and here's the dmesg output:

[ 3999.923054] usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0cf3, idProduct=9271

[ 3999.952838] usb 1-1: ath9k_htc: Firmware htc_9271.fw requested

It does look like I need another firmware...?

I used the 1.3 version file. I am guessing that's referencing the hardware revision, but I can't find anything about that on my device..

Anyways - I wanted to consult you before proceeding..

EDIT: I can see you posted back. I'll be trying that now!
