Lacie Network Space Max

Lacie Network Space Max

Postby javierin » Thu Oct 24, 2013 2:33 pm

Hello, is it possible for me to install the 15 version on a Network space Max please?, it seems there is support for two disks enclousers: 2big Network 2 and 5big Network 2, and what about Space Max...?

Maybe 2big Network 2 is similar hardware than max, but slower.

Thanks in advance

Hi javierin.

Yes you can install the firmware on it. An owner tried to do it with success but all the tests did not make because the user had to separate of it.http://plugout.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1429

The version 15.0 already knows this device ;) So we can expect that there is no big issue.

Note : currently, the firmware doesn't handle RAID and so RAID 0 or 1 is not yet available but with the version 16.0

To install version 15.0,
1/you can use the fvdw-sl console to create the system disk with version 14.0.
2/create manually the partitions table of 2d disk (see my relevant post in the topic http://plugout.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1429)
Note : at this step the 2d disk still won't be visible
3/upgrade the firmware by using the web interface
Thank to version 15.0, the nas database will be also updated and the two disks will be visible...

But before installing I have some asks about your disks : check if they are AF (advanced Format) disks and their size (<2TB or not)

Hi Jocko. Thank you for your answer. I am going to read the post carefully and when I have time I will start to move it to fvdw-sl firmware. The most important is to know that it is possible to do it. My network space max contain 2 disk of 1 TB. I will post my experiences.

Thanks again

Hi Jocko, I have never installed this firmware and I have got differents inconvenients for me to follow your instructions.

- I do not use windows, but lubuntu 12.04, then I am using Virtualbox with WinXP for me to use the fvdw-sl-console. Using wine does not work, do not let me enter the password

-Now I can exec the fvdw-sl-console in WinXP, but I can not find ver 14, only 15. I have downloaded and executed it, no problem, I can see the actuals lacie partitions:

Disk /dev/sda: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121601 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 1 250 2008093+ 5 Extended
/dev/sda2 251 121601 974751907+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda5 1 32 256977 82 Linux swap
/dev/sda6 33 33 8001 83 Linux
/dev/sda7 34 34 8001 83 Linux
/dev/sda8 35 140 851413+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda9 141 249 875511 83 Linux
/dev/sda10 250 250 8001 83 Linux

Disk /dev/sdb: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121601 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 1 250 2008093+ 5 Extended
/dev/sdb2 251 121601 974751907+ 83 Linux
/dev/sdb5 1 32 256977 82 Linux swap
/dev/sdb6 33 33 8001 83 Linux
/dev/sdb7 34 34 8001 83 Linux
/dev/sdb8 35 140 851413+ 83 Linux
/dev/sdb9 141 249 875511 83 Linux
/dev/sdb10 250 250 8001 83 Linux

-You have told me that I have "to create the system disk with version 14.0.", ¿where, on sda or on sdb?, ¿and how?

- I have read "install_fvdw_sl_firmware_hlp.htm" and I am stopped on step 11, I do not now if I have to delete all parttions on both disks before or only one of them... I don't care about the raid, at this moment I only want to learn and understand all procedures what I am doing and see fvdw-sl working ;)

Sorry I am newbie on the lacie devices, but it's not problem for me to use linux, so I understand some steps faster. I would prefer not use windows for this, but I do not want to open the case and extract the disks, I would like to understand how to do it all by terminal or by programs.

Thank you
javierin

you must install the firmware on sda

To get sdb in the game you have two options:
(1) partition sdb manual, for this you could use the manual installation document for a single disk, in this case there is no need to place anything in partition sdb1,1,2,6 and 7
You should still format sdb8 in etx3
(2) use the fvdw-sl console and let it prepare sdb as well. It will not harm the system, it still will from disk sda and mounts sdb8 as data partition
