the button does not work on / auto / off

for discs now I do the test with the disk 500gb with the system and one 2 tb

not more kenel panic but is not seen in the interface box slot 2

mmm...not some time to see how to solve this

with the disk is slot 5 it tries to boot from the disk in slot 5 as it is seen as device sda , which of course fails as that doesn't has the partion structure and (cannot find sda7) and no firmware. It should use the disk in slot 1 . We had this problem also with the 5big2 there the solution was using a disk map to force the kernel to assign drive leters to fix slots. need to look if this is possible here as well

why it doesn't see the disk in slot 2 is also a mystery.
I will come back with a new kernel asap

check your pm box for a new test kernel
this one should assign slot 1 always to device sda, slot 2 to sdb and so slot 5 to sde indepenent of how many disk are installed
ps I think the fan is temperature controlled and will start itself when needed. Keep an eye on it for the moment

Instructions for the trying the new kernel
You can test using two ways

Method 1
Using the fvdw-sl console (preferred way)
unpack the zip file and put the kernel in the tftp directory of the fvdw-sl console
Switch of the nas
start fvdw-sl console and choose load external kernel as action
Choose the new kernel in the popup window and start your nas. The fvdw-sl console will interrupt boot and upload the new kernel and it will continue to boot.
See if you can contact it using the webinterface when it has finished boot.
The disadvantage of this method is that the kernel is not written to disk so everytime you want to use it you need to load it this way. However the advantage is that when it fails to load you do not need to restore the working kernel to sda6.
When it works ok write it to sda6 using method 2.

Method 2.
write it with dd command to sda6 of the 500 gb disk with the firmware
Start nas with one disk, unpack the zip file in the share with name "public" access the nas via ssh and give command

reboot it and see if it comes up

post output of dmesg and console on the board also of a trial with the second disk in slot 5

console does not go through loads the kernel with tftp server but then it is as if one were to stop the operation of the HD is the light turns red ... and I can not see an interface as the console draws putty to load the kernel from tftp server


I have to use method 2 as soon as I finished place the log

stops here and the red light on the HD and the button you on / off now works

mm..the (serial) console should at least show that it is decompressing the kernel. or is this the output from fvdw s-l console ?

What we will try to do is load the kernel manual
Switch of the nas and stat fvdw-sl console and choose as action u-boot console, a command window should pop up saying that it is waiting for u-boot
Now start the nas and you should get in the the u-boot console window a marvell>> prompt

yes this output is quite "normal" when loading an external kernel, Only the message starting the kenrnel is missing and which bootargs are used these should be the last message in the "auto1" messages. But it can be that you cut that of on your screen shot



Did you try the experiment with using tftp boot and netconsole support, see my previous post ?
This should keep the u-boot console open and show the output of the the netconsole.

What is changed in this kernel is settings in the driver for the disks, however I can not imagine that this would stop the kernel form loading and at least gives output and fails (if the the adpations were wrong) when trying to load the disk drivers.

Did you look at the output of your serial console connector ?

yes, ok it hangs so to se

but do you still have you serial console operational ? what output does that give when loading this kernel ?

In the meantime I will prepare a kernel with taking out in the setup file the modifications made and only leave those in place in the disk driver.
The setup file uses a disk map routine maybe it confuses the kernel
