I also get warnings about bad performance when running "mke2fs -j -m 1 /dev/sdb5"

What is the warmings

So you tried to continue ;)
We must have more informtion.
So Please post the following outputs (all) :
Code: Select all
mount
before creating the table (i) (to check if your device /dev/sdb isn't auto-mounted by knoppix)
Code: Select all
fdisk -l /dev/sdb
when you made all instructions of the step (i) : after "w" (write the table to disk).

edit by moderator fvdw, one line deleted

I even followed this manual, and it still give me the "Partition 1 does not start on physical sector boundary"

* Create partition 1 in the normal way. A `p' listing will produce
the mismatch complaint.
* Type `u' to set sector mode and do `p' again. Copy down the number
from the "End" column.
* Delete partition 1.
* While still in sector mode, re-create partition 1. Set the first
sector to match the number of sectors per track. This is the
sector number in the first line of the `p' output. Set the last
sector to the value you wrote down in the step above.
* Type `u' to reset cylinder mode and continue with other
partitions.

Ignore the message about unallocated sectors--they refer to the
sectors on the first track apart from the Master Boot Record, and they
are not used if you start the first partition in track 2.

The first problem, is creating the partitions.
/dev/sda1 Start End Blocks ID System
1 64 514048+ 83 Linux
Partition 1 does not start on physical sector boundary
Etc.

I we focus on this warnings first.
What information do you need?

I ignored the warnings and continued with the installation. And now it works, I can log through the web browser.
BUT, will I suffer for this (bad performance or something else?)
I did the fix for the "Partition 1 does not start on physical sector boundary", but got warnings after creating new partitions as earlier.

Is there any way I can find out if there is any real issues with the disk?

The result is a lot of information, but I still have the same warnings as before.
If you send me your emailadress, I can email a picture of the screen.

Normally, there is no sensitive data in this output but you can use my PM (you have enough posted to use your PM)
