no there is no need for backup
we only replace the kernel. if the new kernel doesn't work you can write back the old linux 26394 #20 kernel

kernel and kernel modules are sent by pm

I unpacked the modules:
Code: Select all
 /share/1000/Terra # tar -xvf modules-5big1-395-27dec13.tar -C /
./
./lib/
./lib/modules/
./lib/modules/3.9.5/
./lib/modules/3.9.5/isofs.ko
./lib/modules/3.9.5/v4l2-int-device.ko
./lib/modules/3.9.5/usblp.ko
./lib/modules/3.9.5/v4l2-common.ko
./lib/modules/3.9.5/cifs.ko
./lib/modules/3.9.5/nfsd.ko
./lib/modules/3.9.5/uvcvideo.ko
./lib/modules/3.9.5/nfs.ko
./lib/modules/3.9.5/fuse.ko
./lib/modules/3.9.5/videodev.ko
./lib/modules/3.9.5/ntfs.ko

and I copied the kernel in the public folder and then giving the command:

Code: Select all
dd if = uImage-395-11-NWSP2CL-5BIG1 of = / dev/sda6

Code: Select all
/share/1000/Terra # dd if=UIMAGE-395-NWSP2CL-5BIG1-11 of=/dev/sda6
3793+1 records in
3793+1 records out
1942040 bytes (1.9MB) copied, 0.145934 seconds, 12.7MB/s
/share/1000/Terra #

Reboot:

Code: Select all

there is a problem and it seems to me that already happened once with a kernel, but it escapes me what did you do to solve it seems to me that it was some command in the kernel that was not

the problem that time was that the kernel was too big and did overwrite u-boot when it was loaded.

I thought I had made it small enough, need to check what the max size can be.
Do you remember which standalone kernel 92.6.39.4) you could load and run ?

I will compile one with usb support as module, that will make it smaller. If that works we will need to add loading some modules later after boot to get usb support back
