Lacie 5Big2 Failed After Firmware Update

Hmm, not sure how to move disks if it runs out of space but.. I also don't think the Lacie was even close to full. I think it was running just over 2 Tb.

As for the overwritten files-- I have an old Lacie with 4 disks. One went bad and I replaced it. That's when it re-synced and threw the files everywhere, overwriting and renaming. I shut it down and we haven't powered it on again since we discovered it (it was my wife's photography on there). I was thinking I remove the replaced drive and try to rebuild it with just 3 and see if the files are still messed up. What do you think?

this because you did not replace "ip-pc" by the actual ip of your windows pc :pound ;)

..and did you retry, just a few files to see if they are ok

Doh!! ip-pc fixed! I copied some stuff and it looks okay. Pictures were fine. Lots of data so maybe some won't be. Hard to tell from such a small sample but of this, we had about 75% on other back ups so if just that missing 25% is fine, that's enough!

So how do I repay you guys? You have an e-mail where I can contact you? You have mine in my registration. I saw a paypal donate button- is that for all of you?

You can't exchange the disk. But you could now decide to only copy a few shares, and the rest on another disk.
If you wait till the usb disk is full it can be hard to find out what was not yet copied.

Well, it cannot get worse, I think.

BTW, does the 5Big2 have a fan? And is it running? 5 disks which are working hard can give some heat.

The paypal button is for the admin's of plugout (me and Jocko) but probably Mijzelf will also have a paypall account, he can sent a pm to you via this forum, or you can sent a pm to him. My e-mail you8 can find in the info of fvdw-sl console

Any donation is appreciated and it gives also satisfaction to see that the fvdw-sl console was a useful and powerful tool (still need some optimization) and that all efforts to develop it were not for nothing

yes it has and it should be running, the kernel enables power to it, but put your ear to the casing can not harm to hear if it is running. Its a big fan though not making a lot of noise

I'm hoping to copy as much as I can now before it fails or something equally drastic (I am the unlucky1). So tomorrow I'll buy another drive if it ran out of room and make redundant copies if need be. At least until I get the Lacie up and running again (though not sure how yet).

The 5Big2 has a fan and it's running but maybe I'll blow some air over it with an external fan just in case! Thanks for the heads up!

We'll be happy to donate what we can (we're a non-profit org) but even more so, I'm going to promote fvdw-sl console to our members and volunteers. I'm sure there's others with NASes and problems.

I think once I have the files safe I want to make the NAS so that it's not a RAID but instead just 5 disks where 2 back up automatically on the other 2 and if any 1 breaks, I can replace and resync or even just read it and work with it by connecting it to a PC. I'm so over RAIDs!!!

Ok. A quick calculation tells me it will take 30 hours to fill this disk. So leave the telnet session open, and take precautions to make you pc not going to sleep.

Good night!
