fvdw-sl-console for ms windows install without removing HDD

I typed dd if=/dev/sda6 of=/sda9/nwsp2-partition6.img and it seems to work. I have got the img file in /dev/sda9 it has a size of 8193024 byte (or kb don't know) ;-) but I had to make mkdir /dev/sda 9 instead of mkdir sda 9

Edit: damn I proceeded the installation and got the message mounting sda 5 failed it stucks at 35%

Edit2: fdisk says sda 1 -sda9 are existing

if sda9 is not mounted then you will write the image to the root file system which is in RAM (memory) the ram could be not big enough to contain the images but apparently this is not the case, did it transfer the files to the tftp server ? and what is the size of the images it made from sda6, 7 and 8

ps There should no space between sda and 9 or sda and 5

ps2 mkdir /sda9 should be fine no need to add /dev

This could be because there is no ram left to create a mountpoint as you have filled up RAM with the disk images...

might there are no images from sda6, 7 and 8 in /sda9

I typed it in without spaces. This is because I write this text with my phone because the laptop and the nwsp2 are not online at the moment

you mentioned you let the script proceed, does that mean you continued without making the backups ? and that the now a new partition table is created ? So the orginal one is gone ?

if the old partition table is there then indeed sda5 can not be mounted as it don't exists

it will also happen when there was something mounted when recreating the partition table. Then the kernel will keep using the old table.

if you have deleted the original partition table I suggest you power done the nwsp2 and start the process again without the backup of old partitions. Those backups can be obtained form me if you want them

if the new partition table was cretaed you need to delete it before starting the installer script, so it will be treated as a new disk
This can be done by using
Code: Select all
fdisk /dev/sda

and then entering
Code: Select all
d
1
d
2
d
3
d
4
w

to see if it is empty type
Code: Select all
fdisk -l /dev/sda

if no partitions are mentioned start the installer script and answer on question if it is the original disk "no"

sorry was out for a walk ;-) I deleted the partition table. It is empty when I type in the fdisk -l /Dev/sda command. But it stucks at mounting sda 5 again. Can I power it down for a restart?

Yes you can power it down and restart the procedure as described in previous post

I hope you enjoyed your coffee :) I did it! And finally everything works fine!!! :woohoo
Very nice work what you wrote there! :applause I think LaCie should take a look to see what consumers want to have on there drives. And now: I will go to donate some Euros for the great work and the perfect support of a Linuxnoob. I hope you keep on working this project.

THANK YOU!

PS: If you want I could help you to eliminate the last few spelling misstakes in the german translation ;) - I know it's not the most important thing

:-D glad to hear that you finally succeeded and helping to get some bugs out of the scripts.
Development of bug free scripts is always a painful process as a tiny detail can make the difference.
Seems everything works ok besides the backup of the lacie partitions. I will add the format command to format sda9 before trying to mount it. I can not check if that is solution but one of the future users will be able to do so.

Thanks for the offer for translation I will speak with Jocko about, we already have a member that does this translation but apparently he overlooked some.
:thumbup Thanks for the donation as well it is much appreciated and helps to get the project and server going, you will be added to VIP members
