IP6 support on FW available ?

Hi experts,

recently I changed my DSL internet account to a new 50/10 Mbit account with a very ! Fritzbox 7490. This nice router is able to manage IP6 as well as IP4 adresses. And look: the new VDSL also works on real IP6.

As my windows PC support IP6 I wonder if the 2big2 and NWS2 with the next firmware releases will support this new IP scheme.

Can you give a statement on the support / availibility in your firmware ?

Hi wd9895,

need to talk with fvdw but the kernel should support it.

but what is the interest of using ip6 behind a ISP box?

IPv4 will get out of fashion :)

It's not a request for the short term but IPv6 will be support by every component very quickly and the dual stack is just a solution in between.

In most cases an IPv6 router not just gets a public IPv6 address, but a whole /48 or /64 subnet. Which means you have billions of routable public IP addresses. So you can easily run more than one webserver, ftpserver, ... without port conflicts.

On second thought, I don't know if ftp supports IPv6.

Thank Mijzelf
I understand better.

About ftp server, we use proftpd and by default its configuration support ipv6 but of course need to check other servers. For example I not sure that our dropbear version supports ipv6,...
