well then my suggestion is to try if this disk works in your second nwsp1, this to check if the sata interface of this nwsp1 has a problem.
Even if the partition table was wrong u-boot should recognize that a disk is present and mention the brand and size and some more general stuff

Think we should again focus on the disk
Which linux flavor (ubuntu, knoppix..) did you use to prepare the disk ?
