Dear both,

I follow the firmware development since quite a long time - many thnaks for your efforts and time, that you invested creating bugfixes, new features anf bringing the SPD8020 to a new level of NAS drives.
But: I recognized that - if we want to use it further - a further development has to focus on performance. I fon not mean the disk performance but the webinterface.
In my case I use the twonky and FTP only and the webinterface is very slow. Diableing the twonky it's working handy but not a s fast as in FW 8 or 9.

Can you issue a list of runiings services to disabel which might accelerate the SPD8020 to perform better ?
What else can I do ?

Yes we noticed this also on nwsp1 and sp8020. The small system memory is the bottleneck, unfortunate.
One of the things slowing it down is the size of the dictionary. We have made many additions in the time past and as result the size grew and affects the performance significantly. Jocko is making some improvements that will be incorporated in the next release that will improve response of the webinterface but it will not become lighting fast.

About services running at same time
A big resourse consumer is transmission and rsync (backup). Transmission up and download limits can be limited to for instance 10 kB/s (at least for upload, or disable upload at all of downloaded torrents)
Using more then 1 media server will also affect performance, minidlan seems to be the best when talking about low system resource needs.
Also if there is more then 1 user it will affect performance as well

With only twonky and ftp it should be not too bad after twonky finished indexing your media files. This indexing can take quite some time if there are many files

Another development could be having a program running on the windows PC that communicates with the NAS and takes of part of the work of the web interface, but that will be a major job.

better buy a nwsp2 if you need better performance ;)

PS if the NAS runs I do not use the webinterface a lot of spd8020. But you are right it would be nice to increase the speed of the web interface on the spd8020.

when you buy a nwsp2 be sure to get a "classic" with 256 MB of RAM
(there is also a Lite version in the shops that is also sold as nwsp2 but has only 128 MB RAM)

But I can confirm that buy a nwsp2 worth its price

I bought a NWSP2 last autumn. Its performances have nothing to do with the nwsp1 and also with the spd8020 and now I'm reluctant to use my old and poor nwsp1 :? (I keep it only to make backup with my nwsp2)

but it's hard to identify via an online shop ...

I recommend buying only nwsp2 on sites where the specifications is detailed.

And maybe not bought the first price that deviates from the average price

you could go to a shop like "mediamarkt" and as to unpack it before buying, (also Dixons in the Netherlands sell them)
