Hi,
I tried to upgrade your firmware direct from original Firmware Version 1.2.9.47
and allway get:

File Uploaded. Error!

I tried the "9er" version and the "10-1 lower"

System: Windows XP Prof SP3
NAS: SPD8020CC/10

I'm not using any linux so first i would like to try any older version (before 5.1) is that possible
or any other ideas ?

Thanks Ali

If 10-1 lower won't install then likely you are the owner of a spd8020 with small system partitions. Those versions have system partitions which are too small for the newer version and can contain max 100 MB. The newest version is an image of 200 MB and the system partitions should be 256 MB

To find out if this is your problem connect to the spd8020 using putty
user: root
password: giveit2me

then type on the command line fdisk /dev/sda
and then "p" after the command line of fdisk, this will show the partition table of the disk
Post the result here.

if it is a small partition version then there is no other way to install fvdw-sl versions above 3-0 then taking out the hard disk and repartition it.
On such a system fvdw3-0 could run and installed without taking out the HDD, but further upgrades will be impossible. I attached it for you so can try but be aware that it has still limited features but more then the standard Philips firmware and not all fixes of later versions.

spd8020-fvdw3-0-13122008.zip

below the output of fdisk on a normal spd8020 with a 1 TB disk
Important are the sizes of sda1 and sda2

Code: Select all
root@SPD8020:/ # fdisk /dev/sda

The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 121601.
There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024,
and could in certain setups cause problems with:
1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., old versions of LILO)
2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs
   (e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK)

Command (m for help): p

Disk /dev/sda: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes

Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Thanks for very fast answer.

I tried it this mornig with fvdw3-0 with the result that now i can't reach my SPD8020 any more.

I think - have to try it with linux now.

But one more question:
Is it right (for future / when it works) to install or update the firmware in "normal codition" ?
that means for me:
- NAS integrated in my network (after router/switch)
- using normal networkcables (not crossover)
- Virusscan still running on my system
- using google chrom or MS internet explorer

Thanks Ali

after upgrading you should be able to reach the spd8020 using the IP address assigned to it by the DHCP server (probably you router)
An indication if the spd8020 booted properly is the blue light. When booting it will blink, after a while it should stop blinking. then it is ready. if it keeps blinking forever then the boot failed.

The other questions about future, yes it can be upgraded without need to take out the hdd and having you PC running normally

you need to flush caches of your browser. Close the browser and start it up again and try to open the webinterface after a fresh start of the browser

I can not reach me SPD8020. I scan all my local IP´s. But nothing :(
But the SPD8020 lives,if i connect something on the USB port then the the led´s blinks.

no you cannot reset something on the PCB. I don't know which setting you had before you installed the 3-0 version, eq IP automatic or manual ? In case of automatic it might be difficult to find the disk as you pc might only scan in the workgroup. if the spd8020 is outside that it might not be found. If it blinks when connecting an usb disk then it is very likely that it is alive, and if you have seen the web interface then it must have had an ip address. Did you use the Philips restore to factory defaults procedure ? (If not then don't do that)

if you remember the name you have used to indetify the nas for example (spd8020) then you could try http://spd8020
But also for this to work the nas has to be in the workgroup of your pc (think philips used as default mshome as workgroup)

Thanks for the quick help.
IP was manual before upgrade and this IP is no more :(
As PC i use a PowerMac with OSX but with PC the same. I try a ipscan tool for OSX but i will try your tool. Thanks
I did´t use the factore default procedure.
After flush browser cache i see nothing ,not even the philips screen.
If i try to connect http://spd8020 then i see nothing again.
I have the NAS since today,i hope i can relive .
