Samba Performance

Hi, I am using spd8020 since 5 years.
My Firmware Version is 1.2.9.fw fvdw 4.2
One year ago I changed my disk to 1.5TB. I am very happy with it now. But I would like to upgrade my firmware to enable USB NTFS write access.
Yesterday I tried fw 7.0 and 10.0 lower version. For both I got as network performance (local disk) half of the original firmware.
Old firmware speed: 8.5 MB/S New firmware speed: 4.3 MB/S
Is this normal ? Or are there any parameters settings to improve samba speed ?
thank you

hello

no the speed should be same as with original firmware, certainly the older version of fvdw-sl. It contains the same server as the original server.
But if you use other features at same time not present on original firmware. then performance might be affected.
the spd8020 has only 16 MB of RAM so running more then one application at same time can affect performance

No, I am using just the same config as original one. No server software is running. Just the samba and ftp server..

then i don't know why this is the case on your spd8020, my spd8020 reaches this 8 MB/s But only for big files. If it are small files like pictures then speed reduces due to file headers to be written.
What about download speed ? (I assume you were referring to upload speed, if you download form nas to your pc then there is no file header writing slowing down the transfer)

For a big file average speeds are below.

FW:4.2
Download speed: 15-17 MB/s
Upload speed: 7-8 MB/S

FW:10
Download speed: 8 MB/s
Upload speed: 4 MB/S

While copying on FW10 the ligts are blinking differently. periods are short. something ...-...-...-...-
On old firmware its .....-.....-.....-

I checked today the speed on my spd8020 on a gigabit network and get 12 MB download and 7-8 upload. So I am sorry but I don't know what can cause your problem :dontknow
ps I run fvdw-sl 15-0
